Dunn - List Admin Account" Subject: TEC: kevin fox. TEC = Tangential Emm Content because he's played with her :) Just returned from seeing Kevin Fox at C'est What ... he was amazing. The last time I saw him, in January, I described his songs as about half-hit, half-miss, but in the intervening time, either one of two things have happened: a) his songs have gotten better, or b) my appreciation of them has. I'm sure a) is true, but I suspect my improved assessment is due to b). In fact, I think that my recent exposure to the music of Richard Shindell has helped in that route; I know he's REALLY folky, but many of Kevin's songs are pretty folky too. And written in major keys, no less. (Mind you there are a few more experimental numbers) I spoke with him briefly [1] and he says he is just putting the finishing touches on an album, and hopes to have it out Real Soon Now. (tm) I'm looking forward to it greatly, and hoping that he has some of those killer string arrangements on there too. Anyway, off to bed :) - - Julian [1] He seems a genuinely great guy, by the way -- might have to do with the fact that he lives on the Toronto Island. Pretty much everyone that lives there seems to be nice, as a pre-requisite for getting in [2] :) [2] Not kidding; there's an application process, with "neighbour review". [ Julian C. Her voice sounds exactly the same on Yellow as it does on A.D.I. and it sounds completely different on Lonely Boy.... Does that have something to do with how it was recorded? or is it that her voice has changed? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get Yahoo! Does that have something to do with how > it was recorded? or is it that her voice has changed? i think her voice has definitely changed over the years. lonely boy was recorded last year, so it does have more of a science fair feel. it could be in the production too, i'm not sure. also, i remember emm telling me that not until OLY did she really figure out what she wanted to be doing - what instruments to use, etc, so maybe she changed her vocal stylings as well. because there is a HUGE difference, imo, between how she sounds on ADI and the next three albums. she also said that singing never came as naturally to her as writing/playing music, and she has taken voice lessons for several years, so that might have influenced a change in her vocal sound as well. i really love the piano intro on "yellow". i'd love to hear it with just her and the piano. and i'm getting really into "lonely boy" as well - it's almost haunting. dana - -- dana wagner --> http://www.sas.upenn.edu/~dwagner university of pennsylvania, class of 2000 * "all of the commentary comes between all the living." -emm gryner ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Jul 2000 21:47:04 -0400 (EDT) From: dwagner@sas.upenn.edu (Dana Wagner) Subject: and distrust it (fwd) i think noah meant to send this to the list, but it was just sent to me. We spoke to Tara PERSONALLY this weekend after seeing her perform at Stardust. We said nothing to her about this issue... but she SPECIFICALLY asked Attila if we knew who was behind this buying her shows on CD. We told her that we only knew what we were getting through e-mails. And she told us that she does NOT want this to continue!! PERIOD!!! She doesn't want the money... She told us she allows us to record for our own PERSONAL use and NOTHING else beyond that! If this continues, Tara said she will HAVE TO STOP ALL recordings and photos being taken at her shows! Also, Tara can get in MAJOR trouble if this gets very well spread!! (As you know, or don't know.... people from Nettwerk are subscribed to this list. Yes, her recording company!! So, therefore, they already know what's been going on.) How much clearer can this be to all of you?? These words came straight from Tara. If you have any questions, you can e-mail me or Attila (fumbler@juno.com)... but since Tara said to STOP this... We really see what questions any of you can have! We simply ask, as dedicated, loyal Tara fans, that you stop all of this!
