Back when I was a HUGE cranberries fan.. i use to frenquent a bunch of cd used stores all the time.. There are ALOT in Toronto, but of course you need to know where to look to find the SHAG. There are a number on Queen Street. Some in various spots along yonge street. Bloor West has it's share and even College has a few. I know there are also a ton more in hideaway pockets of Toronto. And recently discovered a place called deja-vu discs that have stores in the burbs. I'll have to compile a list... FYI: cd cat on yonge has like 4 or 5 copies (brand new practically, I swear cd cat gets their cds from some blackmarket source) of DIDO for super cheap.... I was gonna pick up a couple of cds today, but opted for new shoes, two gap ribbed t shirts, and a gap short sleeve blue Stretch shirt... As Michael was saying.. i have never been to THAT cd store... One of these days I will have to do a major trade in of my cds... and get either money or credit towards other purchases... Grin Anyways it is getting late... and before i even start on a USED CD GUIDE i gotta update Trish's site, put up an online portfolio and update my wild strawberries site.. grrr.. busy busy busy... cheers.. and to all the canadians have a GREAT long weekend... to all the Americans have a GREAT long weekend next weekend xo Rannie >and speaking of cd shop recommendations, after michael responded to my original post, he and i were discussing back and forth the idea of a used cd shop guide to toronto. or any other city for that matter. rannie, what do you think about putting such a "guide" on the toronto fumblers site? i'm sure it would be of great help to any fumblers/headliners visiting toronto, and perhaps even some in toronto as well. >seems like everyone has their own opinions about what is the best place to shop - i thought it'd be a cool idea. and although we're talking about toronto right now, i think it could work for any city. so if anyone wants to "represent" their town and its cd shops, that could be included as well. i can already think of a lot in philly and new york. :) > >dana > > > > **************************************************** Rannie Turingan Toronto, Ontario, Canada ICQ:3857207 AIM:ranzTO http://www.aquezada.com/~rannie/ **************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 May 2000 11:42:55 -0500 From: dana wagner Subject: RE: NEC: good used CD shops >FYI: cd cat on yonge has like 4 or 5 copies (brand new practically, I swear >cd cat gets their cds from some blackmarket source) of DIDO for super >cheap.... yeah, i think erica bought the cd at cd cat on yonge, and rather than just finding the cd and putting it in the empty case, they gave her a brand new, unopened cd. hmmm... used? >As Michael was saying.. i have never been to THAT cd store... Concert thoughts Hey all, so, yeah I've been lurking for awhile, but decided to finally pop out of my shell briefly...not that I have anything important to say. I went to Wihtby last night for the season finale of the the Vital Spark Folk Club. I've never been to a cocert put on by this folk club before but I must say I was very impressed. The artists performing were Sarah Granskou, Tim Harrison, and The Arrogant Worms. Sarah was very interesting, she was more of a storyteller than a singer, which was a little disapointing because she did have a lovely voice. She did mainly Norewegian folk songs and poems about her time in Norway. I was very impressed with Tim Harrison. I don't know if anyone's heard of him, but he's one of those folk singers that's been around forever. Nothing was outstanding or unique about his traditional folk style but it was a nice and enjoyable act. I love the Arrogant Worms so perhaps I'm slightly biased towards them, they're just so hilarous! And as can be expected they peform much better to an enthusiastic audience, (last time I saw them it was a small and very reserved audience) So that was my night, but the atmosphere and attitude of the organizers was just as pleasing as the performances, so I'd definetly recommend to anyone in the Toronto area to make a trip to Whitby to see something done by the Vital Spark Folk Club. Anyway.. I was reading in the Sunday Star today a very sad article about the way Sharon, Bram & Friends were treated at the Tulip Festival. So I was wondering how the Tulip Festival was going... Fill us in you Ottawa folk! Ok, I'm done my babbling, so I'll just go and lurk some more, take care everyone! CD Cat seems to be _the_ place for industry types to dump their excess or unwanted stuff. I'm pretty sure it's mostly on the up and up, even though you aren't supposed to resell a lot of the promos and not for distribution things the Record Industry Weasel's get. James.
