["Tab Siddiqui" Subject: OAC: chantal's first official US show [philly]! hi everyone, [insert mandatory apology for crosspost here] well, i just got back from seeing the ever-wonderful chantal kreviazuk at her first US tour date in philly. i know, i know, she did those in-stores, but this was the first real show. and her first show headlining in philly. highlights: - -she remembered me! and it's been over a year and a half. she came out of the venue while we were on line to get in, and came over to say hi. then i got to talk to her more after the show. - -accompanying her was our lady peace keyboardist jamie something. he also played guitar. i thought they worked well together, especially on the more rockin' songs. but her solo stuff is where she really shines. - -her setlist was awesome! i wish she'd played more UTRAS stuff, but nevertheless it was a terrific setlist. and she told so many funny stories and joked around - ahh, it's been so long. set included: *souls *waaaaaaayyyyyynnnnne!!! *before you *far away *m *god made me *dear life *blue *cover of a neil young song (?) - REALLY good! *soul searching *feels like home - -encore- *leaving on a jet plane (she made us all stand up and we sang along) *eve *surrounded she told stories between every song, so it was a pretty long show. about an hour and a half. and that made it just so much fun. the painted bride is an odd venue. it was ok, though. it seats 300, but maybe only 125-150 were there. real small, real intimate. i don't know what to say. yeah, for once i am speechless. i've been on a real concert roll lately, and this one is RIGHT up there! i just want to let you all know what an incredible show it was. it's been so long since i've seen chantal, so seeing her again was great. if you haven't seen chantal, go see her. she SHINES in her live performances. i can't rave enough. if you are going to see her on this tour, well, you are in for a REAL treat. everything was performed with so much energy and passion. shortly after, she came out to sign cds and stuff. i already have what i want signed by her, so i just got a picture. but the cool thing was as soon as she came out, she came up to me and we started chatting. so i was really happy she remembered me. i thought maybe because it's been so long she might not, but she has a very good memory. :) anyway, so the crazy person i am, i'm planning to go to DC to see her saturday. it's an early show, so i can come back the same night. i met this cool girl at the concert who is also going to DC, so i'll probably go down with her. i know a few of you told me you're going - AJ, miriam, hilary, who else??? COME ON! this is a show you don't want to miss - i mean it. especially if you are already a chantal fan. those of you who said you were coming tonight and didn't, well, you missed out. she was amazing. dana NP: leona naess, "comatised" (just go buy it - yeah, YOU!) - -- Dana Wagner University of Pennsylvania, Class of 2000 http://www.sas.upenn.edu/~dwagner/ "i should be silent, and let you read it in my eyes." -emm gryner ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 03 May 2000 08:32:27 -0400 (EDT) From: "Julian C. Dunn" Subject: Emm content Just an admin note here from the listowner (puts on listowner hat) I've noticed recently that an increasing amount of list posts have nothing to do with Emm. While I don't have a problem with that, and in fact I encourage discussion about other artists, etc. it might be an idea to consider if your post might not be better directed at some of the other lists devoted to that particular artist. For instance, we've recently seen a plethora of Tara related posts, some of which might belong better on in-the-wings. I'm not trying to "impose" any rules on you guys, because we live in a democratic society :-) but I just wanted to throw out that suggestion. You might also consider putting the label "NEC" (for Non-Emm-Content) on posts that have nothing to do with Emm. While I want to encourage the community spirit here among Emm fans -- and that involves talking about off-topic subjects -- I just wanted everyone to think twice about what they put in their "To" and "CC" lines, and try and help those of us who get hundreds of messages a day from other lists. A discussion-based news list, I mean. I know there is the list that Steve/Gian send out as well... There are two Patty Griffin lists, one for news and one for discussion... just a thought. I couldn't agree more...in the relatively brief time I've been a Headliner, one of my favourite things about the list has been all of the great new artists I've discovered as a result of hearing about them here. I'm always looking for new music to listen to, and this is the only mailing list I belong to, so I for one really enjoy and appreciate it when people recommend other artists that they think Emm fans might like...if it wasn't for the OAC discussions on this list, I never would have discovered people like Dido and Leona Naess, and that would be a real shame. ************************************************************ Mike Keast (michael.keast@giffels.com) http://www.geocities.com/dtswd/ ************************************************************ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 03 May 2000 19:17:18 -0400 From: "Jess :D" Subject: NEC and NTC: Performers needed for TULIP FESTIVAL sooooo sorry for the crosspost... okay...here's the deal...i'm volunteering for the tulip festival here in Ottawa (ontario), and i just came back from a meeting. It turns out they have two available slots on May 12 and the other on May15 for the "java hut". the java hut is a coffee house like thingy, so they were looking for YOUTH perfomers with coffee house acts to fill in those slots. so if anyone is interested, get back to me ASAP, and I'm sorry that i don't have all the details right now, but the sooner you reply, the sooner i can call the organiser and get all the facts. so, yeah that is all... jess ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 May 2000 19:52:51 EDT From: COoLCa7@aol.com Subject: NEC: Cat Power does anyone on here like Cat Power: aka Chan Marshall, because I fuckin think she's great. cat ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 May 2000 21:38:54 EDT From: Piggio@aol.com Subject: RE: Emm content Micheal writes: << one of my favourite things about the list has been all of the great new artists I've discovered as a result of hearing about them here. Michael and Dana both said it best. People on this list honestly have the best tastes in music of any people I know, and I'm proud to associate myself with all of you; and it honestly would be ashame if I had never heard of some of these artists mentioned in OAC and NEC posts. Unlike Michael, I DO belong to more than one list, and I haven't noticed the comradarie or close-knitness (my own made up word) on those lists that I have noticed on this one. Not only does everyone on this list love the amazing, beautiful, and incredibly talented Emm Gryner, but they are deeply passsionate about other artists and the fact that they feel the need to share that love with the rest of us does not offend me in any way shape or form. I'm glad that the rest of you love Emm and these other amazing women the way I do. Thanks to all of you for sharing the love, and for the many great recommendations over the last year and a half that I've been a "headliner". pax, Rob ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 03 May 2000 22:33:30 EDT From: "Jamie Severinski" Subject: just a question:some [EC] Hi everybody, I was just wondering if anyone knows of any stores in Windsor that have Emm'm Original Leap Year?????? Just to add to the barrage of Tara stuff... ;-) Pollstar's reporting that Tara's going to be part of the Toronto Stardust Picnic (Blue Rodeo's big summer touring festival) date at Fort York, along with Colin James, Iris DeMent, Blue Mountain, Kim Stockwood, among others. The Toronto dates are July 8 and 9. Judging by her busy summer tour sked, I doubt Tara will be doing many, if any, other Stardust Picnic dates in other cities, but it'll be nice to see her outside down at ol' Fort York anyhow... The Stardust Picnic's always a nice, mellow, sun-and-fun kinda festival, definitely worth checking out, IMO. - - Tab :) ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of headline-girl-digest V3 #117 ***********************************
