When I was in Vancouver I was at the Virgin Megastore and found the new 30 hour famine cd. I forget the actual title of the cd but it featured Tracks by both Emm Gryner and Sarah Slean. Cool eh. I didn't pick up the cd yet, But I am gonna see if I can find a copy here in Toronto. i am sure HMV must carry it. Cheers for now Rannie ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 May 2000 16:26:52 -0500 From: dana wagner Subject: cd purchases! after the tara/dido concert last night, leigh and i headed over to virgin megastore, where they had a lot of cds on sale for really cheap! i only got 2 though : leona naess - comatised for $8.99 (wooohooo! i was gonna buy it at sam goody where it was just $12.99, but thought i'd hold out to see if nyc had it cheaper). air - virgin suicides for $13.99 i was going to buy chantal's "CMAS" just to get the free video, but when i told the guy at the counter that i already had the cd, he just gave me the video. it has videos for "before you," "dear life," and "surrounded" on it. my first intro to chantal was thru that surrounded video, and it was the only time i ever saw it, so it's great to see it again. i plan to get more cds at used stores when i go back to nyc this weekend. but let me say that these albums are amazing. i know it's been said, but i'm really glad i got them. please everyone go out and buy them. i listened to virgin suicides on the train ride home and it was just amazing. but you really have to be in the right mood to listen. MATT HARKER - go buy this album now. you will LOVE it! thanks to all of you for the recommendations and also to the amazing emm gryner for her wonderful taste in music. :) dana - -- Dana Wagner University of Pennsylvania, Class of 2000 http://www.sas.upenn.edu/~dwagner/ "i should be silent, and let you read it in my eyes." -emm gryner ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 May 2000 17:18:59 -0400 From: Lauren Schreibstein Subject: ONION headline #2 : LOCAL SINGER BLAMES IT ON JULY, SELF Emm's brother, Tony, wrote this as a joke and I thought you guys might enjoy it. Lauren >From The Onion back in 1998: In a bold statement yesterday, a local female singer blamed it on July and proceeded to coetaneously blame it on herself. Emm Gryner, who released the CD Public a few months ago, went on to say "God, you know, he gave me the summertime and everything... but what did he leave me in return? Nothing else! Nothing else but July!" A visibly distraught Gryner muttered something about a nauseating happy New Year before declining reporters further comment. A spokesperson for the month of July was quick to rebut the singer's remarks. "You know, it kind of takes the credibility out of a song like Summerlong (another track on Gryner's CD) when deep down inside, you're at odds with one of the summer months. Summer simply wouldn't BE summer without July. We feel Gryner may be simply taking out her frustrations with April, May and June and levelling them unfairly against our client. Whatever the case, she is waging a private war against one of the hottest months imaginable. I can assure you, slander and liable of this sort will not be taken lightly." In a legal precedent started by The State vs. Collective Soul in 1995, the band was fined heavily for inclusion and misrepresentation of the month of December in a song about oral sex. "I feel we will have to go down similar avenues and seek legal compensation for harmful words and punitive damages that will forever scar a month that most Americans look upon with favor and anticipation." ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 May 2000 21:22:10 -0400 From: Detroit Rock City Fumbler Subject: The Girls Room Tour *TARA* Tara MacLean * Kendall Payne * Amy Correia * Shannon McNally Here are the dates for the Girls Room tour: July 10, Seattle, AroSpace July 11, Portland, Ore., Alladin Theatre July 13, San Francisco, Slim's July 14, Los Angeles, Troubadour July 15, San Diego, Cane's July 17, Salt Lake City, Zephyr Club July 18, Denver, Bluebird Theatre July 20, St. Louis, The Side Door July 21, Chicago, Double Door July 22, Minneapolis, Fine Line Music Café July 24, Detroit, 7th House July 25, Cleveland, The Odeon July 27, Boston, Karma July 28, New York, Bowery Ballroom July 29, Washington D.C., TBA July 30, Nashville, Tenn., 3rd & Lindsey July 31, Atlanta, Cotton Club Aug. 2, Houston, TBA Aug. 3, Austin, Texas, La Zona Rosa Aug. 4, Dallas, Gypsy Tea Room Aug. 7, Las Vegas, Crossroads @ House of Blues Aug. 8, Los Angeles, Troubadour ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET!
