If so, you might want to send your interpretations to Emm Gryner, who is running an artwork contest for her next album, a collection of rarities and B-sides scheduled for limited release on her Dead Daisy label. Entries can be mailed to Box 404, Station C, Toronto ON M6J 3P5 by April 11, or visit for the full details. Gryner is currently settling into her new digs in upstate New York before jetting off to Ireland for some of her infamous Living Room shows and to London to record some demos with producer Felix Todd (Heather Nova), who was poking around town during CMW looking for new acts. As if that weren't enough, she's still on call for upcoming David Bowie gigs, which will likely include some big European festivals this summer. Gryner recently parted ways with longtime manager Michael Murphy, and is now manager-free for her songwriting season. Murphy, a former Toronto dweller transplanted to New Jersey, is busy handling Dusty Trails (featuring members of the Breeders and Luscious Jackson) and Jim Thirlwell, a.k.a. Foetus. - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - --- so emm moved from toronto to NY? or just that she's playing there? Well it is now.) of used CD stores, CD Warehouse, Boogie Records, etc. Where else would I be so lucky to find Public for $6 a couple years ago, resulting in my current state of being and presence on this wonderful list. And just today I was incredibly lucky to find both Holly McNarland's "Sour Pie" and the Murmurs self-titled album. Oh what a great day :) ~Laura ===== Music: breathing of statues. Luscious Jackson Just heard on the radio this morning that N.Y.C. cool chicks Luscious Jackson have decided to call it a day. I'm disappointed - I *loved* their last album, "Electric Honey" (it was *the* album of summer '99 for me), even if some of the critics thought they were going in too much of a "commercial" direction... My big regret, though, is that I never got to see them live (hey, anyone with b**tlegs is welcome to drop me a line ). This is actually very interesting news, because local music journaliste extraordinaire Liisa Ladouceur reported in her column yesterday that Emm's former manager, Michael Murphy, is working with a new band called Dusty Trails that features members of Luscious Jackson and fellow cool chicks The Breeders. When I read that yesterday, I thought, "Cool! Neat side-project/supergroup!" But now that I've heard the news about the demise of LJ, it makes more sense... (I guess Liisa's the first to break the news of this new group, then..) Geez, LJ breaks up, my fave indie bookstore files for bankruptcy... not much of a good-news day. :( - - Tab :) P.S. Liisa continues her support of Emm in the aforementioned column - the Mike Murphy mention is in a paragraph about the cover art contest for the "Dead Relatives" CD: http://www.eye.net/eye/issue/issue_03.30.00/music/grapevine.html ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 01 Apr 2000 17:33:24 PST From: "Tab Siddiqui" Subject: OAC: Further LJ news...
