I've decided this week will be a week of playing new songs, songs from Dead Relatives (aka songs from the grave) and songs I hardly ever play live. These will likely be some of my last shows for a while, (unless you happen to come to Fin's house in Cork, Ireland) and I'd like to share some of the secret songs I'm excited about." Mark MailCity. I just walked in the door from Emm's show in Philly and I just wanted to post a bit. It was an amazing show, small turnout cause of it being Tuesday I guess, but Emm was awesome. Ok so I don't know the setlist, but y'all going to the Fez are lucky! She played old songs, new songs, and in between songs. I got to hear Andy of the North! Woohoo.....and it's nothing like we sang it girls. She also played ummm The First Day of Spring? and her newest one, something about tornadoes, i forget the name. A Chain of Tornadoes? Anyways, songs that great shouldn't be allowed to exist. Also saw the Julian video, loving those buckles on Emm's suit. Ok so this review sucked, I'm sure Dana will give a better one. But yeah, good times had by all:-) Shannon whos hoping to make at least fridays show *crossing fingers* Life is a battle in which we fall from wounds we receive in running away. -- William L. I know Emm brought her own to Trish's backyard party and all the artists plugged into it for their respective sets. >> True. all Trish brought here when she played last October was a keyboard and the keyboard stand, her guitar, and a small amp and microphone. nothing fancy needed. it is *ONLY* a living room concert afterall, not a stadium concert. have fun with it, but don't sweat all the details. (not that i'm any LRC veteran, having only had one myself, but you get the point... just have fun with it...) TORONTO SINGER/SONGWRITER EMM GRYNER STUNS AUDIENCE AT SMALL SHOW IN PHILADELPHIA WITH BRAND NEW MATERIAL! ok, that was BY FAR *the* best concert i have ever seen in my life, and the best i've ever seen emm. wowee. i am on such a high right now. emm played some amazing new material, some old faves, and previewed some dead relatives tracks. the highlight of the entire evening (at least for me and sparkly chick) was the last song emm played, the most recent song she's written, entitled "a case of tornados." i'm sad to say it, but this song blows parting song out of the water. and i ADORE parting song. and yes, she played parting song as well tonight. :) breaking her "fashionably late" streak, emm showed up before everyone - even me! a few of us hung out over tea in the back of the writers house, where they have a kitchen, and joked around until the start of the show. we also got to watch the "julia" video!! after much effort - we even had to interrupt a group meeting in the room where the tv/vcr was. but hey, we exposed more people to emm. :) i am still quite in shock. setlist included: big day the first day of spring a little war (breathtaking, just breathtaking... ahh) southern dreamer doomsday parting song your sort of human being andy of the north mary jill you do something to me july acid julia a case of tornados i think that's it. did i forget anything, shannon? you know how sometimes a song can stir up everything inside you and can make you frozen with awe at its sheer beauty? that, in a nutshell, is a case of tornados. emm just gets better and better with every show. can't wait till fezzzz!! she told me most of the stuff will be never-before-heard. hopefully some of the new stuff she played tonight.. ok, i'm supposed to write a paper now. hmm... maybe i'll comment more on the new songs when i finish that. dana - -- Dana Wagner University of Pennsylvania, Class of 2000 go elsewhere --> http://www.sas.upenn.edu/~dwagner "i am slowly getting there, the place between love and i don't care." -emm gryner ------------------------------ End of headline-girl-digest V3 #82 **********************************
