I have to say it! Sorry but I must declare a big WOOHOOOOO!! for the incredibly awesome, insanely talented & stunning Ms. Angelina Jolie.. she rocks big time. She was born to play Lisa, no question. And of course I can't forget another congrats for Hilary Swank, who also rocks. Unfortunately I haven't seen the movie yet, but from all the clips and articles I've read about it, it's awesome I'm sure. It's very sad, I know.. but historical and gutsy nonetheless. ~Laura P.S. My f#$*ing VCR didn't record the awards last night while I was at my Photo. class so I missed most of it... did Sarah sing that Toy Story 2 song?? I thought she was supposed to.. Thank goodness I watched most of the Movies that had won. American Beauty was an awesome movie, I saw it twice. And Boys Don't Cry was such a heavy movie... It totally blew me away when I saw it. As for Angelina Jolie... yes she was awesome in Girl Interrupted. Luckily I went out on a limb when I choose Michael Caine, and screen play for Cider House Rules, especially since I have not seen the movie yet. I meant to see it, and have hear very good things about it, even before the Oscars. And I was smart enough to choose the matrix for all those technical awards.. whoo hoo... I did lose out of Directing which was very stupid of me considering that I was going to choose American Beauty, but I didn't. and my Other wrong answer was for Original Song. It was not a very strong Category this year, unlike other years, They didn't even spread out the performances like they have in the past. The fumbler inside me went with "When She Loved Me" (Sarah's performance wasn't all that great, but it wasn't like she was singing her own song) my next choice would have been Aimee Mann.... I should find out shortly if I won.. I think I did.... (YA ME!!) So word on the street is that Emm Gryner's Music will be featured in a movie... that is so cool!!! (had to throw in some Emm Content, and hey it is semi related) Cheers Rannie JODEL JIMENEZ on Monday, March 27, 2000 9:37 am To: headline-girl@smoe.org cc: (bcc: Rannie Turingan/DICO) Subject: [NEC] Laura's Oscars I second (and third, and fourth) that woohoo for Angelina!! She really WAS born to play Lisa. I'm going to have to disagree about Angelina Jolie, I thought the award should have gone to Catherine Keener...then again, maybe I'm just peeved that my two favourite movies of the year (Being John Malkovich and Boys Don't Cry) only won one Oscar between them, with BJM getting shut out completely. I was very happy to see Hilary Swank win though, she was amazing in BDC...and even though I knew Phil Collins would win for best song, I still think Aimee Mann was robbed! :) ************************************************************ Mike Keast (michael.keast@giffels.com) http://www.geocities.com/dtswd/ "Some people wear their heart upon their sleeve. American Beauty, which doesn't surprise me even though I don't think it should have won. AB was an excellent film, but the screenplay for BJM was just brilliant, I've never seen anything even remotely like it. I thought it was the best original screenplay, with "original" being the operative word! ************************************************************ Mike Keast (michael.keast@giffels.com) http://www.geocities.com/dtswd/ "Some people wear their heart upon their sleeve. Hey guys, I bought a copy of this album over the weekend and unfortunately cannot get into it at all. I really thought I'd like it cause I'm into other albums that fall into the same genre, but... I don't know... Anyway, if you'd like to buy it from me I'll sell it (for waaay less than I paid for it at HMV!)... Please email me if you're interested!! I have a bunch of other things I'm getting rid of too... A lot of female artists and unsigned bands, indie stuff...etc. Maybe i'll make up a list? If you're looking for anything or just wanna know what I have, email me! :) Thanks... Oh, I have a promo copy of Macy Gray's "I Try" -- I'll GIVE it to you. I know some people here really dig her but I can't stand her voice or lyrics... :( I don't know what my problem is lately, I can't get in to anything new!! Regarding Leona's album and Tab's post, I also find her album a little inconsistant. I really love her voice and lyrics... I think she's a really good songwriter and someone who has a great deal of potential... However, I don't think she worked with the right producers on this album... I like a few of the songs a lot -- "Lazy Days", "Comatised," "Lonely Boy," and, yes, even the single... But there are a couple that I would like to hear produced differently... or I hear the music and think it doesn't really fit the song - -- does that make sense? I skip around a lot on the album, and it did take me awhile to get in to... Again, though, I really enjoy her voice and lyrics... I hear she is amazing live, too, and even though I live in the same city as her, I've yet to see her live. Hopefully soon. And, Tab, that's funny you brought up her interview in Jane magazine! I thought her answers to the questions they asked were really odd... I don't know... Here are some new releases coming out soon that you all might be interested in, many fall into the "singer-songwriter" category... *Jann Arden - "Blood Red Cherry" - March 21 (Canadian release) *Chantal Kreviazuk - "Colour Moving and Still"- April 18 (US release, already out in Canada) *Billie Myers - "Vertigo" - June 6 *Janice Ian - "God and the FBI" - June 6 Out later in the year: - - Fisher - reworked songs from "One" for their new label, Universal/Farmclub.com -- they were recently featured in Time magazine and are one of the top Internet/mp3 bands! - - Emm Gryner - "Dead Relatives" - rarities and bsides album on web or @ shows only - - Unbelievable Truth - "Whose side are you on?" - who knows when, but I need it now!! :) - - Maren Ord - album for Capitol/Nettwerk - - Radiohead - - Bic Runga - Untitled release as of yet planned for later in the year - - Patty Griffin - Album done being recorded, out later in the year - - Me! - If I ever finish recording... hopefully my album "After Silence" will be out in July but probably not until August... Oh, and Britney Spears is recording something new.... And she's covering the Rolling Stones "Satisfaction"... Or I should say crucifying their song "Satisfaction" ;) Jessica np: www.jessicaweiser.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Mar 2000 22:10:29 EST From: Zelie519@aol.com Subject: NEC: Final info. about Tara in Cleveland For those of you who haven't e-mail me... here's the scoop! I bought Leona Naess today at my place of employ: they're one of our "The Next Sound" artists at Target stores everywhere, which means you can buy it for $7.99 on sale, so its a relatively risk free investment!!! i actually like the CD very much. some songs more than others, and i haven't had it long enough to develop favorites or to "skip around a lot" like Jess; i've just been listening to it all the way through a couple of times to get used to it. so far, i'm pretty impressed. i don't know enough about the technical side of music to be able to make such critiques as "she should have used a different producer on certain songs", but i will agree with Jess that her lyrics and music are very good. i enjoy it, and i''d recommend it (and i'm not just saying that to get you to go to Target and buy it, LOL)... peace, Rob ------------------------------ End of headline-girl-digest V3 #81 **********************************
