Hi everyone! Well... I saw Tara and Dido in Toronto and the only thing I can say is: WOW!!! We saw Tara and Dido perform in-store sets at HMV in the afternoon AND I got to meet both of them AND get my photos with them. They were both really friendly and were excited to take time to talk to everyone who wanted an autograph. (Tara even said she liked my shirt -- go me!!) They each played about 4-5 songs (Dido - Thank You, Here with Me, Don't think of Me, All You Want ----- Tara - If I Fall, Higher, Divided, If Only (from her EP If You See Me) and I think another one, which I can't remember) After the in-store we went to Zelda's for dinner and then on the concert at the Phoenix. Dana Manning (I hope I spelled that right) opened and then Dido, followed by Tara. Dido's performance was AWESOME! I don't remember everything she played, but she did play almost her entire CD. She was completely different live than I had expected. She had a DJ with her, who added an interesting twist to many of her songs. She has great energy and spunk, which I didn't really get from listening to her CD. AND as if I wasn't in awe enough with Dido's performance... Tara was equally as AWESOME! I love going to concerts where the artist talks to the audience and makes them feel a part of the show and I think Tara does a GREAT job of this! She was constantly telling stories about her inspiration behind certain songs and just little stories about her life and touring and whatnot. She performed many of the songs on Passenger and Silence, as well as one song that she's never recorded - Child (HOWEVER, she said that she thinks that she'll record that one soon), which was inspired by advise her mother gave her. I CANNOT wait to see her again when she's in Cleveland and Akron in March and April!!!!!!!!!! :-) It was a VERY AWESOME concert!!! And the trip went well, except for a few minor problems --- I'm VERY GLAD that I was able to make the trip (with Rob) to see them perform!! One of THE BEST parts was that I found my Fusion candy bars -- when I went to see Emm in London, I got one and it was YUMMY!! Apparently they only make them in Canada, so I stocked up on them!! :-) Thanks to the Golden Griddle Group - you know who you are!! :-) It was A LOT of fun to spend time with you guys even though some of you were intimidated because the Americans out-numbered the Canadians!! :-) AND special thanks to "Mr. CN Tower Man" -- thanks for pulling me out on the glass floor, about 114 floors above the ground!! Sightseeing with you was great!! AND extra special thanks to Rob!! I had a GREAT time... despite the "problem"... Thanks soooooo much for roadtripping with me!!! :-) That's all for me right now... Oh, one more thing... how can I forget this?!?!?! I got an "Emm Watch!!!" The candy store on Yonge St. across from Eaton Centre has them!!!!! :-) Smile! I'm always looking for new stuff too... Indie: - -Darcie Miner (www.darcieminer.com) - Someone I know from another list and she's a REALLY good singer/songwriter and she's *16*... She's got an extremely mature sound and voice... Different than the stuff Emm does, she's more like Patty Griffin/Beth Hart/Train, etc... Anyway, there's one clip up on the web, but the best songs on the album imho are "Goodbye" and "Falling Apart"... The CD is $12 and she's doing something for a major label soon... Check her out!! - -Rayanne (www.aquezada.com/rayanne - coming very soon!) - Just released her first EP and she's really really good... she's on this list too ;) Order her CD though her, I'm not sure how much it is: rayanne@aquezada.com - -Lindi (www.lindi.lovesmusic.com) - Toronto artist, interesting stuff... she's really nice too (hi Lindi if you're out there)! - -Kyler England (http://dekana.com/kyler/) - Really good singer/songwriter from Boston... My cello player is featured on her CD too! Label Artists: - -Leona Naess (http://www.mcarecords.com/artists/artist.asp?artistid=173) - CD coming out in a few days... Really good, some kind of annoying aiming-to-be-radio-friendly-pop songs, but some really amazing songs ("Comatised", "Lazy Days", "Lonely Boy", etc.) - -Fisher (www.fishertheband.com) - Just signed a deal with Universal/Farmclub.com and they are amazing... Also on mp3.com - mp3.com/fisher... - -Sheila Nicholls (www.sheilanicholls.com) - Her album "Brief Strop" has been in my cd palyer for awhile... Piano based, Ani-esque lyrics... some of it is really really good, then about halfway through the disc it gets a little repetitive... still, some songs are worth checking out ("Elevator" for example) - -Aimee Mann (www.aimeemann.com - I think) - The Magnolia soundtrack is _really_ good... I've heard great things about her new album too, Bachelor #2... Anyway... if these don't sound appealing there's always that new Oasis album :O Jessica www.aquezada.com/jess | www.mp3.com/jessweiser ------------------------------ End of headline-girl-digest V3 #65 **********************************
