'ello t'all you crazy kids! Well, it's been quite an exciting weekend of "fun & adventure"... where to begin? Hmmm, since this *is* an emm mailing list, why don't we begin there? ;) What can I possibly say that hasn't been said already? Emm kicked ass at the Horseshoe... the setlist goes as follows (I think!): 1. summerlong (interesting rendition... very mellow) 2. disco lights (is it even possible to NOT love this song LIVE?!!?) 3. parting song ("the new song"... so beautiful... I'm speechless...) 4. julia (FREAKIN' MUCHMOREMUSIC! still haven't seen the video!) 5. good riddance (raging good fun! we had a semi-mosh pit goin! lol) 6. phonecall 45 (***I FUCKIN LOVE THIS VERSION WITH TRANSISTOR!!!***) 7. boy races (I'll always love this song... but I'm bias *grins*) and one more thing... I FUCKIN *ADORE* HEADLINERS!!! YOU'RE AWESOME!!! other notables that night were: 1) See Spot Run - didn't get there in time, but I heard they were good 2) Jay Englishman - he swore a helluva lot, but I liked his last song "staring at the sun"... whatta tru rock star *grins* 2) Starling - they reminded me alot of Sloan... had lotsa fun on stage jumping around and stuff... they also had kewl promo things (CD singles, posters, stickers -- always gotta love free stuff!!!) and that Danny Michelle was awfully cute... hehehe A bunch of us tried to catch Ivana Santilli later that night, but the Reverb was apparently packed to the brim... so we headed to C'est What instead and managed to catch the last half of Sarah Slean's last song... *shrug* oh well... she was still good... =) Then Saturday... Andy C & me volunteered at the ARTISTS AGAINST RACISM booth at Westin Harbour Castle and met up with some headliners to catch Emm play at the Blockbuster stage... she played Good Riddance, Parting Song, and Phonecall 45... signed a few autographs... said her brief hellos... and went on her merry way... it was good stuff =) Then me, Andy C, and the Ranstar headed to The Warehouse where Prozzac was playing... *bigsigh* I sure do miss Steve McGrath playin w\ Emm, so it was nice to hear him playing for Soul Decision who opened alongside with McMaster&James... LOTSA KIDDIES at this one... tho I guess *I* shouldn't be talking since I looked like I coulda passed for one of them... We ended our night and our CMW adventures at Holy Joe's to catch Michaela Foster Marsh... which I must say was pretty darn good... I really like her new song, Beautiful Disaster (I'm just waiting for Shawna to say something bout it *grins*) And that was my how I spent my Canadian Music Week! I hope all you other locals took advantage of all the great shows... and I hope all you non-canucks are jealous! lol JUST JOKING! we missed you all from the bottom of our emm-loving hearts ;) ... and if you haven't already, go check out the radiosonic site for emm at the horseshoe... The next monday I asked my friend who is the editor of the schools student run paper if he would allow me to write a review, and being my friend, he did. So I wrote a page long article on the show and on Emm, expecting that he would trundicate it of course.. Well.. He didn't. So in this month's MacDuffie Magnet there is a page about Emm. woooo! I think I can snag like 5 copies of it if anyone wants an original sent through the mail, but i can definitely email it to anybody wants it.. xo bex - -- becca * onedove@mediaone.net * 14817711 * snockone "..though dreams can be decieving like faces are to hearts, they serve for sweet revealing when fantasy and reality lie too far apart.." - Fiona Apple ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 06 Mar 2000 01:06:24 +0000 From: Jei-Jei Subject: aloha hello =P i'm jen...and i'm pretty new to this list. i actually just started listening to emm a couple of weeks ago, and i thought her music was completely my speed. just thought i'd say hello to everyone (^_^) ~jen ***is emm planning to swing by chicago by any chance??*** ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Mar 2000 20:09:30 EST From: Juhulia@aol.com Subject: please SOMEONE tell me how to get off this list... i swear to god.. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Mar 2000 21:10:54 -0500 From: "Jess :D" Subject: parting song... wow... Emm and Co. were indeed awwesome. But I was impressed by everyone I was privilege enough to see Friday night, especially Starling. Reminds me of 'One Chord to Another' Sloan. Yay, jumpin' Danny Michel is cute ;-) I really have nothing else original to say about the show: "Parting Song", "Phonecall 45" praises, all agreed. Wow, parting song. The first bit sounded like perhaps she was going to play "Acid" (Jay Englishman had an 'Acid' sign in his hand) but (thankfully) t'was not. Oh yeah the last 3 notes of Slean was good too... Saturday was also a lot of fun, but the quality of music was not quite as impressive. Prozzak wasn't bad-could've been better, McMaster & James, just sucked. SoulDecision was actually pretty good-no attempts at choreographed dancing (unlike McM&J). Michaela Foster Marsh was really good, however the chick before her was just painful, maybe it's b/c i was really tired. I don't even remember her name, but her and the stupid band hogged the couch they weren't even sitting on. All and all, the weekend was great...except I must admit I feel partially empty. We missed Ivana! I wanted to see her most :-( Grrr to fire codes and building capacities.
