MANY of those are my faves too. i also like "Paper Bag"... does anyone have Sinead Lohan's "No Mermaid"? i bought this, Lili Haydn, and Julia Darling all at the same time, and admittedly i didn't give it much play time as i found myself listening to Julia Darling most out of all those three. but i recently went back and popped in "No Mermaid" again, and this is a GREAT disc. you have to check it out if you haven't already. so, everyone still planning on being NYC bound next weekend (despite the blizzards)?? still haven't decided if i'll be road-tripping or not. see ya, Rob ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Jan 2000 19:33:09 -0500 From: "Kimberly B Littlejohn" Subject: Thursday (Boston) Hi there, (Start shameless announcement) Just wanted to let those interested know I'll be playing this Thursday night from 7-9 at Starbucks in Boston/Brookline The address is: 277 Harvard Street right at Coolidge Corner If you can make it that'd be great :) I'd love to see some of you - (/announcement) Cheers! Kim ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Jan 2000 13:38:13 GMT From: "Bruce Lachey" Subject: @ Good Album Alert - Over the Rhine If you all are feeling adventurous you should try a CD from a band I like a lot. It's called "Good Dog Bad Dog" by the band Over the Rhine, and was just re-released nationally (US at least) yesterday. The rerelease drops two songs from the original and adds a new one and new art. This particular CD is pretty organic; mostly quiet songs with acoustic guitar or piano, sparse drums, and female lead singing. Trish C had borrowed my copy of the old version and liked it pretty well (unless she was pulling my leg!). Either way, if you see it, buy it and don't like it, I'll buy it from ya (haha, same offer as the Fiona CD). But really, it's quite good. FOR THE LOVE OF LIFE GO SEE IVANA SANTILLI!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's making me very sad hearing about these super-incredible shows she's putting on around Ontario, but drawing only bits of an audience. Dear God Canadians! Support domestic talent! And yes I will pose the same offer as Kristy and Bruce. If you go to see Ivana Santilli perform and are not fully satisfied, your money back guarantee is from me! http://listen.to/ivana for tour dates and more YAY, I get to see her this weekend! Oh yeah, her album's called "Brown", also wicked, but not quite as good as the real LIVE stuff. LOL, but everyone else that has mentioned them to me LOVES her... The funny thing is that after her performance.. she was signing autographs at the tower booth, and by that time the line was non existant, so Gemma got an autograph. I personally liked Sozzi's performance at the Village stage.. and of course there were the wild strawberries, but we all know that I like them... Tee hee Rob also mentioned something about Julia Darling.... i picked her up... but i don't think I have given her a fair listen... cause i didn't really get into it, (thanks to Shannon for that suggestion...) She also suggested Bertine (nettwerk artist)to me... she is cool as well, but as well I haven't given her a good listen... Some of the artists I did enjoy and discovered last year are DIDO (whom i have yet to see live, she is with nettwerk too) and Kendall Payne, who ROCKS live and her album is great too... I was wondering if anyone picked up the midievil babes? cd.... I believe they are with Nettwerk.... is the album any good? I did pick "Povi" which is another new nettwerk artist.... cool kinda electronic stuff.... with a women vocalist... That is enough rambling from me for now... Oh wait.... Lauren mentioned something about Holly Palmer the other day... I can't wait to get her new album... MIKE MURPHY you must get her to play int TORONTO... must must must...... please please please... Dido is AWESOME.. i want her to come to Toronto to play.... and Kendall too.... I was lucky enough to see Kendall At Hershey Lilith between my shifts at the Breast Cancer Fund booth. and at Camden Lilith, Shannon and I heard her from the village, where we were walking around and checking out the "Nettwerk Booth" .. tee hee Kendall has a burst of energy when she plays live, I guess it helps when she has a rocking band... (cute very cute) I got Jordan's sister, and at first it didn't really capture me, but i wasn't really listening.... but it has grown on me... And that Teaching Mrs. Tingle soundtrack is awesome... one of my fave soundtracks of last year (hmmm probably cause i think it was the only one i bought last year.. LOL) Switching to the Local scene... maybe Tab can help me with this... or Roberto, cause i think i saw this CD in his car.... What is "renann" like? I missed her performance at Toronto Lilith, cause we showed up late. The4 big disappointment was missing the Zoebliss performance..... caught the tail end of their last song, as we were entering the venue :( That's it for now... Ew. I don't like Sozzi... Funny that I worked with this girl who was friends with her and told me all about her signing w/ Sony and stuff... The album was supposed to be released a few months ago, not sure what the hold up is. She co-writes (or other people write for her) all her stuff.... Ah, Trish owes it all to me!! ;) I did promo work for JD before her album came out. A couple of songs on there I liked a LOT-- "Closer Look" is beautiful (Actually the acoustic version I have is way better than the album version), even though I don't like her voice in it, I like "My Inanimate Friend"... I love Dido. So so so so so much. Such an amazing CD, powerful, beautiful... I was reading KP's lyrics the other day and they seem cool, though I haven't heard the entire CD. Best CDs (female type stuff like you guys are talking about) I've heard this year: Fiona's WTP..., Dido's "No Angel", Fisher's "One", PJ Harvey's new one... um.... many more, I'm having problems thinking right now.... Feb. 29th. The same day Chantals "Colour Moving and Still" is released in the US. You MUST hear the song "Blue" (I'm covering it. heheh:) ), it is SUCH a good song. There are a couple of songs on that album that blow me away, and she worked w/ one of my favorite producers, Jay Joyce.
