Hey~ Just wondered if anyone saw Beth Hart on Leno tonight.. I'm not a fan of hers or anything but I happened to see it.. and can I just say, she really needs to lay off the drugs. It actually frightened me to watch, she was that scary looking. You had to see her to understand how much I mean this. Sorry if anyone's a big fan of hers, I dont mean to offend anyone.. but jeez! Anyway, just my $0.02 ~Laura __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! Didn't see it myself; I don't know much about Beth Hart other than I just listened to her CD for the first time this weekend. My neighbors went back home for the holidays and i had to take care of their cats while they were gone, and while i was over there i saw her CD laying around so i had to borrow it and give it a listen. admittedly, I really liked "L.A. Song", but i'm not sure about much else on the album. some good songs in there, but she's got a really raspy, rough voice, and i'm not sure if i like that. on some songs, it sounds like gargled glass or something before she started singing. she can make Melissa Etheridge sound like Sarah McLachlan. with regards to Laura's statement's though, i did look through the album liner notes, and there were several pictures of her in there -- she does look really strung out in some of the pictures. it is kind of scary. peace, Rob ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Dec 1999 12:38:02 -0500 From: Joni Daniels Subject: LR shows The Living Room Tour is back on the road! Thanks! Joni ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Dec 1999 10:54:20 PST From: "Tab Siddiqui" Subject: Best of '99... Well, here's my 2 cents... :) In no particular order, although now that I look down the list, it's pretty darn close to what the order *would* be if I had the guts to actually choose between 'em. ;-)  Also, these are all personal favorites - there were plenty of albums deserving of critical kudos, but if it wasn't something I'd play repeatedly in my own stereo at home, you won't find it on this list. ;-) ALBUMS: 1. Sarah Slean - Blue Parade In a class of her own.  "Classical pop" - a whole new genre for the next millenium. 2. Emm Gryner - Science Fair As one of her compadres likes to say, "Emm Gryner is the coolest person I know."  'Nuff said. ;-) 3. Fiona Apple - When The Pawn... Pity Fiona Apple's poor therapist. ;-)  Lucky for us she channels those demons into the cabaret dream songs on this sophomore album. 4. Tara MacLean - Passenger Tara sidesteps the dreaded "sophomore slump" with this polished gem of a record.  Those pristine vocals are front and centre, and the spiritual, more uplifting lyrics this time 'round show how far she's come since the last album.  A new record, a new husband, a new outlook - the girl's on top of the world. 5. Chantal Kreviazuk - Colour Moving and Still This diverse collection of songs showcases the Winnipeg chanteuse's maturity as a songwriter and performer.  She isn't afraid to try a new sound or different vocal style, and this album is all the more better for it.  The fact that she can pull off even some of the more complex numbers in concert on solo piano just illustrates her remarkable talent. 6. Dido - No Angel So much more than just another female-vox-meets-beats act out of the U.K. While the hypnotic electronica backgrounds laid down by brother Rollo (of Faithless fame) are undoubtably gorgeous, it's Dido's smouldering vocals and dramatic songs that captivate. 7. Luscious Jackson - Electric Honey The album of Summer '99.  As breezy, brash, and urban as the gals' native New York City. 8. Ivana Santilli - Brown One of the Soulshack Survivors strikes out on her own with a sultry, slow-burn stunner of an album.  What modern "urban" music should truly sound like. 9. Tori Amos - To Venus and Back The Queen of Quirky gives her subjects not one, but two great discs with this set - the sprawling grandeur of her live show paired with some wonderfully weird and textured new material. 10. Moxy Fruvous - Thornhill These guys step up to the plate and consistently deliver each time.  Chalk it up to great songs, razor-sharp humour, soaring harmonies and a kick-ass live show. *Honourable Mention:* 1. Spine - Falling Leaves on Burning Trees Even without pal Sarah Slean's gorgeous vocal contributions, a fine contribution to the local electronica canon. 2. Indigo Girls - Come On Now Social Consistent *is* the word for Amy and Emily. :-) DISAPPOINTMENTS: 1. Amanda Marshall - Tuesday's Child What a voice, what a waste. 2. Paula Cole - Amen There's some good stuff here, but it's a tough listen to get through to the gems. 3. Sarah McLachlan - Mirrorball It feels like heresy to say it , but can you say, 'overproduced'? GREAT OLDER STUFF BOUGHT IN '99: 1. Sinead Lohan - No Mermaid 2. Zoebliss - 13 april 3. Liz Phair - whitechocolatespaceegg 4. Patty Griffin - Living With Ghosts 1990s TOP TEN: [This list is still a little sketchy, but here goes anyhow...] 1. Sarah McLachlan - Fumbling Towards Ecstasy 2. Sarah McLachlan - Solace 3. Emm Gryner - The Orginal Leap Year 4. Sarah Slean - Blue Parade 5. Moxy Fruvous - Bargainville 6. Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes 7. Barenaked Ladies - Gordon 8. Wild Strawberries - Quiver 9. Dar Williams - Mortal City *or* End of the Summer (okay, so I'm cheating a little; can't decide between them! ;-)) 10. Jewel - Pieces of You - - Tab :) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Dec 1999 15:42:24 EST From: Songbird22@aol.com Subject: Re: Best of '99... I am absolutely addicted to this album... "Here with me" is such an amazing song... Today my obsession is "Thankyou" :) Really really good production... would love to know how they got some of their drum sounds (sorry, i'm a geek;) )...
