The venue's cool, great acoustics, all balcony, and the pipe organ behind her is a nice effect. Rannie dives into action clicking away. "Julia" calls her to the Clavinova. Emm's wardrobe choice of the night is a black thin-strapped tank with gray long-slit skirt over knee high John Fluevogs that my girlfriend covets. Holly Palmer, who was waiting in the wings, joins her for a rework of "Disco Lights". Rannie doesn't miss the opportunity. But all this wasn't before we are teased with the possibility that they'd do "Rebel Rebel" (complete with some do do do-do-do's), then deciding against it. "Stereochrome" has Stephen McGrath and (Tim?) the bassist back. This sets up the night's Initial Public Offering, a metal version (kidding) of "Summerlong". Holls blows me away personally by her BEAUTIFUL song "Something Else". Emm and Stephen make like they've been in her band for years. Then they kick her off the stage. Now, I've had high hopes for "Idaho" ever since you guys started posting about it. As with things that are hyped up, I try not to be too, so I can assess on my own (can you say "Phantom Menace" Jarita!)… well, this is the highlight of the night as the song is angelic. Emm intro's it as "A new song I wrote, about a married man! Is that okay?". do you, Jodel, take this woman… "Boy Races" is the last original before the cover where she plays bass. "Protection" by Massive Attack, Trish? Is that right?? All in all Emm's set was the usual heartfelt vocalization and impressive musical talent. It's still awe-inspiring, but kinda scary too cause I just ever expect perfection and always get it. What if one show, god forbid, she… The setlist also looked like the repertoire she would use for her January 2001 MTV Unplugged special (mark my words). Sticking to some of the hits, showcasing the personal ones. "It's just another year down…" Peace be with you. ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Nov 1999 08:45:11 -0500 (EST) From: James McGarry Subject: Re: Welcome to mass On 18 Nov 1999, JODEL JIMENEZ wrote: > "Stereochrome" has Stephen McGrath and (Tim?) the bassist back. Isn't "Idaho" just the most spectacular thing you've heard in recent memory? I mean honestly, when i heard it in London, I almost cried. i would have looked like the biggest sissy standing there in front of everyone, so i restrained myself. but honest to god, i was floored. you can ask my friend Steph, who made the trip with me. that song is all i talked about on the way home. she probably wished i would just shut up already... can't wait til its recorded so i can listen to it over and over again and continue to be floored by the pure emotion of the song. amazing. emm inspires and awes yet again....
