Travellers take note, it's freeeeezing! > ...also, i didn't like the new chantal single i heard but what is the rest of > the album like? hmm, well, I know lotsa people disagree with me and think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I must say I like "Under Theses Rocks and Stones" A LOT better. I USED to be the biggest CK fan ever, but I just don't like the new stuff. People argue that "Colour Moving and Still" is too produced or whatever, but I just don't like her songwriting. None of the songs really amaze me. And initially I didn't like "Before You", but after hearing the rest of the album, I did, simply because compared to some of the other stuff, it's actually good. I'm sorry if I seem a little harsh, I didn't really have high or low expectations, but CMAS just isn't my cup of tea. Perhaps my tastes have change, but ever since I saw her perform 'the new stuff' with her 'band' in the summer, I haven't been very impressed. To her credit, Chantal's voice has really gotten better. I am soo glad she ditched the band for the cross Canada tour. phew. ~andyc np: "in the seasons of our love, i feel the winter setting in..." ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Nov 1999 18:06:25 -0500 From: Joni Daniels Subject: Emm Gryner on tour - -FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE- EMM GRYNER ON TOUR WITH RON SEXSMITH Yes, she still remembers the words to all her own songs! Don't expect her to break into "Rebel, Rebel" in the middle of "Summerlong", Emm is excited to be back on tour with her own music. Singing backup with David Bowie has been a real trip (first class). They made stops in London (Wembley for Net Aid), Dublin, Paris, Vienna, Madrid and Milan. TV appearances on this side of the pond included Saturday Night Live, David Letterman and the WB Radio Music Awards. Coming up this month, more appearances on Conan O'Brien, Rosie O'Donnell and une grande spectacle: David Bowie, l'artiste du mois de novembre on MusiquePlus. Bowie's threatening to steal Emm away for another couple of weeks next month, so catch a solo show while you can! Emm is thrilled to be (finally) on tour with Ron Sexsmith, her idol/mentor. Someone bought me her album (POY) for Christmas one year so I gave it a listen... I have to say one of the songs on there was so poorly written I was laughing out loud... Her lyrics do absolutely nothing for me... very sophmoric... I think Jewel has a cool voice, though, I mean it's strong and pretty... This is just my opinion, though... obviously Jewel did catch on with a lot of people (which doesn't necessarily mean she's good. or bad) and found an audience... That's the cool thing about music, I guess, everyone hears things different and it's such a subjective thing... > comparision is not meant to bash or piss anyone off, because i happen to > think Rayanne is very talented, and if i or anyone else says that she sounds > like someone more famous, that is not meant to typecast her by any means. > it is more of a flattery of sorts. there is nothing wrong with comparing > someone to a more famous figure; it gives us a frame of reference, something > to explain someone else to. i'd do the same thing if i was trying to > explain Tricia's or Emm's sound to someone less familiar with their music. it is > merely a comparision, a reference point, nothing more. i'd be far more > offended if someone said "she's just a Jewel clone" or "Jewel ripoff". now > THAT i would take offense to. That's cool--I do the same things ... I just know Rayanne isn't exactly fond of that comparison ;) so I was sticking up for her... I wasn't offended, by the way, just so everyone knows... didn't mean anything bad with my post. So I was just talked in to getting this CD at the CD store--Morley's "Sun Machine"--interesting so far. I'd heard one song before (which JUST now came on. weird) and liked it... the cd is interesting, actually... And I bought a Dvorak Cello Concerto--can't resist stuff like that (I'm retarded, I know) :) Jessica - www.aquezada.com/jess - www.mp3.com/jessweiser "one more girl on top of billboard. one more girl jumping in with the big boys. one more year and i'm still a no one. waiting for my day in the sun..." -kf ------------------------------ End of headline-girl-digest V2 #260 ***********************************
