I haven't posted for a while...and since I got the most amazing thing in the post yesterday...well I'd say it's the perfect opportunity to graze you all with an e-mail from the Southern part of the world. I got Emm Gryner's latest album "Science Fair" in the post yesterday, about time huh Kristy ? Well the fuss you all made about this album, goes well deserved for sure. WHAT AN ALBUM, what songs...I love it, certainly the best I got this year, together with a k's CHOICE album and a friend of mine who released her second album this year too. What makes this cd so much more valued, or sentimental...is that it's signed by Emm herself !! Now how lucky can one get...(this cd was a gift from a friend of mine in Minnesota, who went to Lilith, and because I went on and on about Emm, he went to check her out, LOVED her..got the cd's, the autographs..the works...very sweet) Favourites at the mo'...well Serenade is a beaut, Stereochrome, the much talked about Julia is lovely, Revenge, Good Riddance and yeah...Boy Races is stunning. I just gotta say, I love the internet...the postal services...and Emm for sharing her music and thoughts...and feelings with us all. What an artist, I can't wait to see her live, hopefully as soon as next year... Well sorry for the old news to most of you, I'm sure all of you. Just had to share this with people who hopefully felt the same as I did when I heard Science Fair for the first time... Later and keep listening up there... Anni - who is blissfully happy... Rob says: > p.s. and NOOOOOO, you do NOT sound like Jewel!!! that would be Rayanne!!!! AHHH! Rayanne does NOT sound like Jewel. I made the mistake of comparing her to Jewel after only hearing a few songs and it was an unfair judgement. Rayanne sounds like Rayanne; I think her voice has a very original quality to it... much like Emm's does, I think... Comparisons are for the weak, people ;) (okay so I've done it too)... Hehe, from my new FAQ on my website: Q: Who is your least favorite artist? A: To quote the great Kathy Fisher of the band Fisher: "Jewel. When I first heard "Who Will Save Your Soul" in the car, I cried all way home, I was so overtaken with grief." I've only been compared to her a few times, and it's only because of my voice, we are *totally different* artists. Also, I can't stand any record-label-creation-artists (ie: Backstreet boys, britney spears)... they aren't artists in my opinion... sorry for the off-topic post and if you are annoyed by the ongoing other artist discussions on this list... jess jessica n. weiser - http://www.aquezada.com/jess "and if i have to hear one more time about a fools right to his tools of rage - - i'm gonna take all my friends, and i'm going to move to canada and we're going to die of old age" - ani difranco ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 31 Oct 1999 21:50:04 EST From: Piggio@aol.com Subject: Re: LONDON ONTARIO: 2 weeks and counting... Trish knows what i'm talking about though. i must explain before anyone wants to kick my ass! we (Trish and I) had a conversation at her house the morning after Trish's CD release party and she asked me who i thought Rayanne sounded like... initially i said, "no one that i've heard, really, BUT if i had to compare her to anyone, it would be Jewel"... Trish laughed because she said that's what most people said the first time they heard her the first time. but we both agreed that the comparison was unfair and untrue and that if anything, it was more for her mannerisms when she performs than for any way that her songs (or voice) sound. sorry Rayanne! i didn't mean to offend, and sorry Jess! hope that clears things up... it was an inside joke; sorry! see you all in London! I guess since there's little Emm discussion going on right now, it would be interesting to talk about the other stuff we listen to. I've been on a REALLY tight budget lately, yet there's an increasing number of CDs I really want to get. My hard drive is below 100 MB due to the insane number of mp3z I've been d/l, but oh well. So, I've allowed myself to buy 1 CD (preferbly used) per month. That's really stretching it tho... Anyway, CDs I *need* to get eventually, but I can only get 1 so far (if any), so any opinions on the following? MANIC STREET PREACHERS "This is My Truth Tell Me Yous" STEREOPHONICS "Performance and Cocktails" COUNTING CROWS "This Desert Life" (out tuesday!)
