Yay...I got in to the show and sat in the balcony with an incredible view of Emm,Holly, and David (both Bowie and Letterman)... and Paul Shaffer and the CBS orchestra who were totally great especially when playing "Everlong" by the Foo Fighters and NIN's "Closer"...hehe I got a pic of Emm as she was leaving the theater and one of Bowie who I believe was blocked by an umbrella....... I can't believe I haven't gone to a Letterman show before this...it was just that great. and I didn't even try getting a ticket till 3 or 4 hours before it started... before playing "the pretty things are going to hell", emm and holly were dancing around to a Sly and the Family Stone song courtesy of Paul Shaffer and company...uh I guess that's about it, except for the fact that the studio is reeeeeally tiny..... ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 05 Oct 1999 07:51:50 PDT From: "Mark Urban" Subject: Net-Aid on VH-1 The VH-1 site says that it'll be showing Net-Aid on Saturday from 2pm till 10pm (EST I presume).... ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 05 Oct 1999 15:13:14 PDT From: "Mark Urban" Subject: my pics from NYC/Letterman I just scanned the pics.... there's 1 Bowie one and 1 Emm one plus one of Paul Shaffer.... http://www.geocities.com/emmgryner ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 05 Oct 1999 21:51:00 -0400 From: Andrea C Subject: if ever I had a saviour... You know why it doesn't kick as much ass as it could? B/C Emm isn't on the top 30! (Not the list of 30 I saw today at the station anyway)...CHRW 94.7 Western...It's pretty sad considering London isn't too far from Forest and Emm could technically be considered "local"...oh well, I plan to change all that when I take over the place! Oh well the copy of Science Fair I saw in the On Air room is a start I guess. But yeah...campus radio will only get better here on campus. You'd just be stuck with a crappy slot for the first bit but eventually... > BTW, I plan to take over the world! OMG! Stephen McGrath! He also drums for Emm, and sometimes Sarah. (j/k) Cows...good food...linkage? But yeah, programming seems like a lot of fun, but I'll have to do a few more training sessions before I get to do anything really. I'm also going to try and learn how to record and produce music at the station too. That place is all sorts of fun. > Remind me to send you the Evil Overlord Rules sometime... *sigh* these > kids, they get into a "University" and they get delusions of gradeur ;-) Bring it on Guelphie! (with love!) ~Andy NP: "There's a frost in the air, summer doesn't want to play..." brrr...the girl knows what she's talkin' 'bout, it's freeeeeeezing these days! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 05 Oct 1999 20:21:13 PDT From: "Tab Siddiqui" Subject: OAC: Cicero last night - A Lecture... So... Que pasa, people?! On the heels of Julian's no-shows at C'est What (for Tammy RayBould) post, here's another. Roberto and I were the *only* ones there last night at the Cicero (amazing local singer-songwriter, friend of Emm Gryner's, on her Dead Daisy label, for those of you who don't know) gig aside from his friends. We kept waiting for someone, *anyone* we knew to show up, but to no avail. Not good, people! You missed a good show - as scheduled opener Rayanne was sick (feel better!), one of Dylan's friends, who only gave his name as "Jonathan", played a solid set that sounded to me like a cross between Jeff Buckley, Duncan Sheik, and Dylan himself (very similar-type delivery). Pretty good - I was impressed. Then Dylan (I feel silly referring to him as "Cicero" ;-)) started with a fabulous "The Price of Eagle Hats and Spacesuits", followed by a nice take on local peers Red Autumn Fall's "Heaven Too". Then he was joined by his friend Bev (some of you may remember her from the first Northern Sounds gig at the Free Times last year) on vocals for a few songs. She's got a lovely, keening, old-school country-type of voice, and sounds absolutely amazing with Dylan. I barely even missed Emm on "The Wind and the Rain". ;-) Well, okay, I *did* (in fact, it seemed weird that she wasn't there - but seeing as she's hobnobbing with the likes of Mr. Ziggy Stardust himself, I guess I can cut her some slack. As for the rest of you... ;-P), but whatever. ;-) So anyhow, this little lecture is being crossposted to get more people out to the rest of Cicero's residency gigs - there isn't one next week, it being Thanskgiving and all, but he'll be there for the other two Monday nights following. So... come, dammit! He's great, and he certainly deserves more support than last night's sorry turnout. Besides, everyone at C'est What is nice, and I think the bar staff were crying in their beer over the practically empty room... ;-) We now return you to your regularly scheduled list chatter... ;-) - - Tab :) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of headline-girl-digest V2 #232 ***********************************
