Hey Roberto....if all else fails, go http://www.ubl.com ... here's the holly site: http://www.repriserec.com/hollypalmer/ which includes short samples ................ I've had the cd for a long while and I happen to like it, but I'd recommend listening to the samples first. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 Oct 1999 07:09:12 PDT From: "Mark Urban" Subject: Holly Palmer.... >found some reviews (all good) but no samples and no official web site. >whats up with that? there MUST be one.. i guess i didnt look very long. I think the new stuff is supposed to be a major improvement... I mean, what she did at her show at the Fez wasn't her own material, but her new cd was produced by Howie B and it explores electronica and stuff more... yay! :) She DOES look like liz and tara a bit! Hey Roberto, I got my copy at CD Cat on Queen St a few years ago. It was in the ultra-cheap bin, meaning it cost 2 or 3 bucks, depending on the special that day. I'd check it out. Anyways I picked it up because I heard her song "Scandinavian Ladies" on a CMJ disc and thought it was pretty interesting. I'm afraid I haven't really listened to the CD since I bought it so I can't really comment on it. "Scandinavian Ladies" is definitely a memorable tune... I could still play it in the stereo in my head after years of not physically listening to it. Hmm... Me'shell NdegeOcello is on the disc! I didn't mean that "not very good" comment--it IS okay in it's own way, I just think she's probably grown a lot... Her voice sounded stronger and she looked more confident... the other CD, I don't know, it had some okay, but I'm really looking forward to the new stuff! :) Sorry--I didn't mean it to sound negative. She has such a good voice... Jessica www.aquezada.com/jess ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Oct 1999 21:53:16 EDT From: Songbird22@aol.com Subject: More Holly... I forgot to mention in the other post, Holly also has a chapter in the book "Solo" which is basically women songwriter's talking about their experiences in the music industry and the pros and cons, etc. It includes stuff from other great females in the industry like Ani Difranco, Jonatha Brooke, Sarah McLachlan, and more... It's interesting... I got it as a surprise in the mail one day when I was feeling unmotivated, and as a songwriter I liked it a lot... Holly's chapter is cool--interesting to find out that she was going to be a doctor but eventually chose music over that! :) Does she have an e-mail list? Does anyone know? I don't think the Reprise site for her has been updated in a year or two... Maybe we could start one on smoe.org for her ;) Jessica www.aquezada.com/jess | www.earbuzz.com/jessicaweiser ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Oct 1999 22:06:50 -0400 (EDT) From: "Julian C. It is very well written -- the interviews are all very personally and down-to-earth -- and the photography is beautiful. Here's a quote I particularly liked from Holly's section: "My sister is two years older than I am. She's more of a thinker and I'm more of a feeler. To avoid making the wrong decision by simply going with my heart, which is what's natural for me, I find myself thinking in circles and not really solving anything. Then I have to go back and listen to my heart, which I should have done in the first place. It usually steers me in the right direction." Hmm, I can relate :) - - Julian On Fri, 1 Oct 1999 Songbird22@aol.com wrote: > I forgot to mention in the other post, Holly also has a chapter in the book > "Solo" which is basically women songwriter's talking about their experiences > in the music industry and the pros and cons, etc. It includes stuff from > other great females in the industry like Ani Difranco, Jonatha Brooke, Sarah > McLachlan, and more...
