Is there another newletter or is it just a matter of watching the emails in this newsgroup? I'm still recovering from yesterday, and pretty much mourning the fact that yesterday will never happen again. :( Everyone started arriving around 5:00, most of my favo(u)rite Toronto peeps were there - Rannie, Chelle, Rayanne, Andrea, Julian, and Roberto. The only one missing was Kristy!!! I missed ya girly! Lots of other people from this mailing list made it too. I'm sorry but I'm horrible with names. Chelle performed first, very cool, she played Ecstasy! I love that song. Her hair was blowing in the wind and it looked very "rocker chick". Rayanne was next, I LOVE her new song(poop, I forgot the title), and she played one of my all time favs, Untitled(as of now). Jess Weiser performed next, and did a stellar job as well, and she was fighting off an evil virus too(get well soon, jess!). Then we took a break...oh wait...no...I was demanded to play some of my poop songs, so I played a new one, and then by request of Emm and her manager Michael Murphy, I played Stargazing and Ticket 152. I just can't play those songs anymore without picturing Emm and MM singing my own songs to me! I think they do it now just b/c they know it embarasses me. After a short break, Ms. Gryner performed. It was so beautiful. We were in the middle of a field, the sun was setting and the weather was perfect. She played Wisdom Bus, Stereochrome first and then by request of Jess, she played Fetching Decay... FINALLY!!!! We have been waiting to hear that song live for how long? It was pretty funny b/c during the intro to Fetching Decay, some kids were swimming nearby and laughing and screaming and Emm just said something along the lines of, "Somehow this just isn't right with the sound of kids laughing!" and then she looks over in their direction and says, "Can't you just be UPSET!!!", haha!!! We requested another oldie, "The End" and she tried to pull it out of the vault, but she couldn't remember the bridge, and she said us songwriters would probably know what she's talking about, and yes, I do that too. So, she played Revenge instead!!! Next, she jumped on guitar and played Southern Dreamer and Summerlong for her finale, but we made her stay up there for ONE MORE!!! We were yelling "Hook Machine!" and then she asks me if I know the song on guitar to do a little collaboration, so I go up there and Jess, Rayanne, and Chelle came up to do background! It was like a mini-Lilith moment! Except I forgot one word in the second verse and, uh, everyone noticed... hehe. "I say to my ANIMAL and all her lives..." I didn't get the traditional "Emm Gryner: The Living Room Tour" shirt because, well, I already have one, and because since it was my birthday, she got me a little gift she picked out herself - a mini baseball tee with a monkey cartoon that says "Superstar". I love it! And she got me happy face bubble gum balls that say "Have a Sweet Day" I just wanted to say THANK YOU!!!! to everyone who came, I hope you enjoyed it, and thanks for the AWESOME gifts, you guys all know what I love, how is that?!?! I assume this would be too embarassing for anyone but me to do, but if any of you are from NYC, someone should stand amidst the teenybopper crowd in front of Mtv studios when they're filming "TRL" (3pm til 4:30) and hold a sign suggesting that they check out emmgryner.com ... Maybe Carson will be intrigued and invite you up! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Aug 1999 22:49:52 -0400 From: Steve I Subject: Re: This Birthday Girl is smiling :) Trish wrote: >Everyone started arriving around 5:00, most of my favo(u)rite Toronto peeps >were there - Rannie, Chelle, Rayanne, Andrea, Julian, and Roberto. NOT :-) I got back a few hours ago from an AWESOME trip to Detroit to attend Trish's birthday party, and of course, take in an "Emm Gryner [+ Friends]" backyard show. As I mentioned to a few people, it was almost surreal to see Emm play in field -- like some kind of music video or something :) I think most of what I wanted to say was already mentioned by Jessica (who was online WHILE we were at Trish's) and James, who I finally met (I sent him a 'Public Speaking' tape many months ago). I'll try and keep this brief... - - Finally met Michael Murphy. When I introduced myself, he said 'oh, YOU're Julian, I've heard so much about you'. I hope everything he's heard consists of good things... :) (you shut up, Andrea C., if you're reading this :) ) - - I got some (I think) good pictures of all the performers. I was standing on the side of the sun, so I was not shooting into it, but instead got some very good lighting effects upon the performers. - - Hung out with the Concepcions and Trish's friends / headliners until a very late hour. After the show we consumed a great quantity of food (yummy chicken wings!), beer, and had an extended singalong, singing a variety of songs (anything from 'Hook Machine' to 'Summer of '69' :) - - Saw some Fumblers (Sarah McLachlan listmembers) there, who I'd just seen last week. In particular, Attilla and Allison -- so, what show are we seeing next week, folks? :) - - Saw two navy-soupers there, Adam and Sophie. I think they were just SLIGHTLY tipsy having finished a large quantity of wine between them :) Emm stuck around till about 10 o'clock. I think Michael was doing a brisk traffic in copies of 'Science Fair' and it was nice to hang out with Emm. Anyone at the St. Catherines living room show remember her saying "oh, this is just like a birthday party!" Funny that she would have said that :) It's nice that Emm's being back on her own label allows her the flexibility to play shows like this and hang out with her fans. I had a really good time last night, aside from being eaten alive by the Southgate mosquito population. I have a swollen left hand to prove it :-( Until Forest, :-) Julian [ Julian C.
