Emms set was brilliant!!! there were hundreds of people there too and when her set got cut short....SHE ONLY GOT TO PLAY FOUR FREAKIN SONGS!!!!...everyone booed the stage manager guy! rock on. i got asked to film the whole thing and i'm going to talk to Steve to see if there is a way to post a mini movie....cross your fingers. oh yea. and Ash Sood(sarahs drummer) and Terry McBride(my hero. he only owns nettwerk) were there for Emms set. oh yea. and Ash PERSONALLY invited our very own Stephen McGrath to play on the famous 'icecream drums' in the finale!!!!!!!!!!!!! i got there about half an hour before emm went on....jstu in time to see this wicked performer named Joan Jones.....ofcourse who should be right up at the front but all the Fumblers (congrats on the comments from SARAH!!!!) and all the Emmbassadors. so then all of a sudden i'm given a laminate and asked to film the set! 'hello ash' 'hello terry mcbride' short but sweet was emms set..i think she played Summerlong, Stereochrome, and Boy Races....and everyone in attendance was BLOWN AWAY. so many new fans. i got most of you on film singing and bopping along....and booing when the set was cut short ;) then it was finally time to hang with Rannie and Michelle!!! EVERYONE MSUT PICK UP MICHELLE'S CD!!!!!!! oh my god thanks so much for it chelle! i listened to it all night when i got home and it really is amazing. kudos to rannie for all his album design work! Rannie and i were dressed as twins...overalls complete with loud bright Livingroom T's....and our watches...Rock on to those of you who wore yours! then who shoudl i bump into but Paul Schrieber.......AND MARK URBAN! ...sans the shirt over his head... hello to Emily and her wicked rocker mom somewhere in here!!!! then it was off to the HMV tent to watch the autograph sigining!..also captured on film...there were tons and tons of people!!!! also of important note: emm sold 70 copies of science fair that day. this is a lot. (i am freaking out as i am writing all this by the way) so those of you lucky people who came, prolly got to finally meet Emms wacky manager Michael...and (drum roll here) JONI DANIELS!!!!!!!! yes, i think meeting joni daniels was the highlight of my life too!..ok well, after meeting michelle t. :) so it was all complete, Emm, her mom and dad and ultra wonderful brother Tony, magnificent Michael Murphy, rannie, the twins, mark( thank you for always being so kind mark!! that cd was too nice!!! thankyou), bob, Emily and her mom, chelle, Rannies friend from somewhere far cooler than Toronto, tab, joni Danger Daniels, a whole bunch of other people that i din't know, and me.............................................. and Prince. yes. prince was at lilith. emm was freaking. Prince played with Sheryl crow and i can't even say any more because i refuse to believe that i did not meet him. lets move on. it was such a joy to hang out with you all (i always get such a warm welcome!) and to sadly loose the First Ever 'Emm You Rock' Screaming Contest to michelle 'my belle' turingan:) until we meet again.... MOO HA HA!!! speaking of Priya... what happened to Jessica, priya, James, Steve, Julian, and other michelle? oh how sad i was that you all were not there! now on to the rest of the show. sheryl=prince dixie chicks indigo girls Sarah McLachlan well somehow i ended up with an Artist laminant. for some reason, artists are NOT alowed to hang out back stage. like i'm talking, you have to be a VIP to stand at the back! VIP's are more important than the artists who actually bring the fans to the overly prices shitty venue! they have to come down to the crowd level and stand off to the side by the washrooms! but,if you are good though you can walk like you have a purpose, flash your laminant at some guy and jstu walk right by.....all the way to the side of the stage and stage next to Ash Sood and Greg Keelor...and a whole lot of other very nice people. and if you are very good, you can stay there for the whole of the set, all the while breaking the unwritten rule of no clapping at side stage, and inching your way to the edge of the curtain hoping desperately that someone other than the awesome techie will see you and recognize you (enter michelle and Rannie) i got to film most of the finale too...acidentally walking out PAST the curtanin and ON TO THE STAGE.....did anyone see my red bandanna? what else to say? it was an out of body experience the whole day.....from the second Emm got on the stage and belted out her tunes, until i found mysle sitting on my bed staring catatonically at the yellow laminant around my neck. you guys ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! love and kisses kristy ps. i got to talk to emm after the show and she said that she was really really touched that so many of you came out just to see her....and from so far!!! she said that she had an amazing time and asked me to thank all of you for all of you for 'being so fucking amazing all the time!' this has been such a sucessuful month for Emm!!!!!! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Aug 1999 12:27:06 PDT From: "kristy radford" Subject: [none] hey all...again apparently there is an amazing review of Science Fair in this weeks Eye.....or manyve it's Now....anyway apparently they call SF the album of emms career and say nothing but good things about it. oh is anyone going to be at the next two lilith dates that emm's doing? tricia what happened to you at LILIth..i thought for surre i'd get to see you!!!!!!!! kr ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Aug 1999 12:32:51 PDT From: "kristy radford" Subject: keep on voting! kristy wrote:> on the muchmusic website, they are having the viewers vote for songs that> should appear on Big Shiny Tunes 44... >there must be AT LEAST a hundred of us between the two listsand all it >would take is one or two votes for "Summerlong" from each oneof us to> >either: >1. get summerlong on the disc >2. get major attention drawn to it at Much so that they willplay it and >possibly to get them to pay more attention to any future emmreleases. >really simple, jsut log on and vote for your three faves! As a Toronto musicphile I find myself wanting to lure Trish across the border so we can point at her and say "see look, here's yet another great Canadian artist"... in a post to In the Wings that is still under construction, I say about Jessica Weiser that I'll forever be bragging about how James and I gave her her first show in Toronto (and I will... that girl is SERIOUSLY talented!). I wish I could say that we gave Trish her first show here too... but the reality is that the person responsible for bringing Trish was really Jessica. Thank you Jess for bringing such a great talent to Toronto! Anyway maybe there's just something in the air around the Detroit/Windsor area... to produce a couple of rare talents like Trish Concepcion and Emm Gryner. Maybe gunsmoke breeds musical artistry. :-) Anyway I'm still amazed that someone so new to songwriting could write such great stuff, especially with the range that Trish displays on this CD. A lot of beginning songwriters will experiment with a variety of different styles searching for their own sound, but few of them are so good at so many styles as Trish so early in their careers. On some songs, you can hear Emm's influence... on others, I could swear she's fronting a Boston alternapop band... Letters to Cleo perhaps? I wonder if James might invoke the cuddlecore label for some songs? I was surprised to find one song making me think of a mellowed-out Metallica with a female touch... Another makes me think of a bizarre but totally fun kind of a britpop-60's girl group fusion. Take all that and add a touch of Ben Folds 5 here and there... and in the end, it's all vintage Trish. Anyway this is a great album. My fave tracks are probably "Nonsense", "Breathe", "People", and "The Flames". But time will tell! Get it *now*, folks... you won't be sorry. >You can find out more about me on my *new* website - >http://www.aquezada.com/tricia Steve P.S., I can hardly wait to see the trunk pictures! I am proud to say that I was one of the first few people to hear some of Chelle's first CD - "Give or Take". The girl's music will make you dance one minute and then cry the next. Gotta love diversity in music. I think I could relate to pretty much every song on the CD which is what we songwriters set out to do, right? Write songs that people can relate to? My favs are "Only Me", "Wash Away", and "Ecstasy". I can hear some Cranberries in her music, The Sundays, but then there are techno influences that I wouldn't know who to compare to since I am not that techno knowledgeable. Nonetheless it's pretty damn cool. Trish ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Aug 1999 22:14:01 EDT From: TrishTLC@aol.com Subject: I have 200 copies of Transition, so should you! Okay people, listen here, listen now... Go buy/order Jessica Weiser's new release, "Transition" or I will round up my "gang banging friends from Detroit" to "drop" you. Okay so I won't exactly do that, but if you don't get it, you will be missing out on something spectacular. If you have her first ep, "What Has Happened", you will love Transition even more. The songs are better, the music is better - not to say that "WHH" is anything bad, but "Transition" is just overall...better! On this acoustic ep, Jess plays acoustic guitar and piano on 6 very well written songs. My favs are "Transition", "Speechless" and "To Believe". Also, her live performance is so moving. Not many people can say they made TARA MACLEAN cry!!!! Anyways, you won't be disappointed! I have 200 copies of Transition myself! Actually I just took them home as a favor for Jessica, hehe. Hmm, Emm and Ben Folds 5 are definite influences, the "Metallica" song is from my brother's influence, if it's the song I think you're talking about(Speculation right?), but people hear the most diverse influences in my songs from Emm, Sarah McLachlan, and The Beatles to Stone Temple Pilots, Juliana Hatfield and Veruca Salt. > P.S., I can hardly wait to see the trunk pictures!
