Dunn" Subject: Early to Rise In Toronto Well what can I say, the show last night was incredible. Bill and I are having a blast up here in Toronto and things reached a crecendo last night with an incredible evening of fun, friends and music. The soundcheck suggested that the show was going to Rock, and theres no doubt that it did. We have a lot to tell but the weekend is short so we are on our way to see the girls play this morning at Roberto's house. More to come from us....... Dunn" Subject: "Science Fair" review in Indie Nation Indie Nation, HMV's monthly newsletter about the indie music scene, has a review of "Science Fair". I've banged it out below. It was wonderful to see Emm do a few songs on Friday night at the Fumblers (Sarah McLachlan fans) pre-Lilith show at C'est What. It's too bad she is playing Lilith Fair today and not yesterday, as I don't get to see her. :-( A wave hello to Bob from Vancouver, who was in attendance at both Friday's show and Saturday morning's get-together at Roberto's, where Jess, Rayanne, Trish and Michelle played. - - Julian Emm Gryner Science Fair This is Emm's third record, the follow up to her hugely successful major label release. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, not the least of which being one of the biggest mergers to have affected the music industry in its history, she no longer has the support (read budget) of a major label. By the sounds of the music, however, I doubt if that will be the case for very long. Interestingly enough, this entire record was put together quite modestly. It is a collection if 8 track recordings in fact, the sessions for which took place in spots as obscure as the Sarnia public library, where there is apparently a really cool piano, to the comfort of Emm's bedroom where I'm sure there is a really cool picture of a piano. It just goes to show that it doesn't take truckloads of money to make a good sounding record, just very talented people and the right songs; Science Fair scores high on both accounts. More than just a collection of recordings, Science Fair is a collection of songs. Fans of Emm's previous work will not be disappointed. Her voice, as clear and sweet as ever, glides through each melody effortlessly and emotively and, with the exception of a few welcome guest appearances, she plays most of the instruments on the record herself. Overall, thanks to the help of those who aided in the recording process, the additional players and the sheer quality of the songs, Science Fair is a great record well worth a listen.
