Oh I feel like such a newbie. ;p (It's one year for > me, but yes to the lines stuff.) I know... it is hard to believe that I only saw Emm for the first time less than a year ago. It was in Vancouver and she was opening for Bernard Butler, who I personally found to be horrible. And actually, I don't think I've memorized the lyrics to a single song, at least not on purpose. > It gives me a mix of emotions, and that's why I haven't really said > anything yet. (Plus I'm saving it for my webpage. ;) A song like Good > Riddance has arguably pretty harsh lyrics... it's hard to imagine Emm > ever ~having to~ get that fed up with people's negative views, because > =we= all have positive views. However, you may recall that I just _despised_ /Public/ when it first came out - -- I couldn't stand the revised versions of the OLY songs. But then, it grew on me, and now I love Public. So maybe three months down the road I'm going to adore /Science Fair/ as well :) There are some songs on the album that I think kick ass (e.g. Disco Lights, Revenge) but other ones that don't really do it for me -- Stardeep, for example. I must be honest and admit that I have never really liked that song. I find it doesn't go anywhere. And Boy Races... I can't relate to the subject matter, or at least the feelings she expresses in it. Anyway, that's my take on it. I really hate to post one of those "here's what I think about the album and that's that" posts (as in, a song-by-song analysis) because I know that next week I'll feel differently about the album. (For instance, I'm already warming to the Paul Weller cover being on the album. I caught myself singing it while walking to the bus stop today) - - Julian NP: The Nields, _Play_ [ Julian C. Anyway, the gist of the message is that he's moving this weekend, so he plans to shut down smoe.org sometime tomorrow morning and restart it in its new location sometime on Sunday, or possibly even on Monday depending if there are complications. No mail will be lost, of course, if you send to the lists -- it'll all be queued upstream at smoe's ISP. However, the lists will not be functional until the machines are back up. Thanks for your patience. - - Julian [ Julian C.
