Yeah I think we're two of the few people that think this way. I always felt _Public_ was eclipsed by its predecessor, _TOLY_. _Public_ didn't scream out ohmygodthis_is_EmmGryner, whereas both _SF_ and _TOLY_ do. I think it shows Emm's skill as a producer matches her skill as an artist, at least, perhaps when it comes to her own work. "Good Riddance" is a really good example of this, there's a lot going on, but its all working together. Sometimes I'd like to slow it down a bit so I can 'get' more of it into my head. _SF_ really does show Emm's progression in all areas, as a songwriter, as a musician and as a producer. James. (Who's thinking too bad the Blair Witch Project contest is on SPACE and not Much! and who's also thinking _SF_ should've been distributed with little First Prize ribbons... ;-) ) ========================================================================== James McGarry | jmcgarry@UoGuelph.CA - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "If the truth were self-evident, eloquence would be unnecessary." - Cicero ========================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Aug 1999 18:34:15 EDT From: Songbird22@aol.com Subject: Re: sentimental blather James writes: > Yeah I think we're two of the few people that think this way. But I still think TOLY is brillance... jessica ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 04 Aug 1999 03:04:17 GMT From: "Adie Pad0k" Subject: the essence of emm I feel like throwing out a question because I'm quite interested in getting some feedback from the most loyal of Emm fans, as most of us have over the years memorized every line of every song of every album she's recorded (thus far). After returning home from AquaFest in Hamilton where (thanks to two amazingly fun girls...Kristy and someone?) I was able to meet (and touch!) Emm Gryner. I chilled in my room just listening to Science Fair and tried to make sense of it all. Don't get me wrong, I think its one of the best albums I've ever heard and I can't wait to start promoting it (and Emm) at McMaster! But there is a mood I have sensed much more on her latest album than on the two previous ones. Maybe its just me, maybe I feel what I want to feel. I understand that music gives different things to everyone and we take what we want from it, but since we all dig her so much I though you could tell me what vibes you get on her albums, especially her latest. I guess I just wanted to know what you thought it is/was that Emm is trying to do through her music. I am a big fan of the songs Hello Aquarius and Hook Machine for their strong, emotionally-charged language and after listening to SF I found even more evidence of someone that has been hurt and is lashing out in a sense (But not in a scary way because Emm could never be creepy like that). Taking the entire spectremm (get it?) of her music into consideration, can anyone help me out? I must sound ridiculous, but I just got home from a long shift and really wanted to post this before bed so I apologize if you have read this and feel like a lesser person because of it... Peace.
