And here's why. Track Listing to Sodium Rainbow... SS B DW C then S which sorta stopped it... (1) Southern Dreamer (2) Summerlong (3) Braving December (4) Doomsday (5) Wisdom Bus (6) Crazy Train (7) Stereochrome Thankfully Emm stopped with the weird at Stereochrome so I didn't have to go screaming throught the fields. If she'd've played Julia or Julia, then Lay Back, then Death is a New Day, it would've spelled out the whole track listing to Sodium Rainbow and I'd have to lose my mind. :-) Yes, I know, I think of the strangest things! > believe she followed this with "Doomsday", which is a song I've never heard her > play live before. I was VERY impressed with it; I think the song is wonderful She used to do it now and then back in the Freetimes days. But not very often even then... (4) Blue Parade (the title track from the new album) These were the only set lists I got for a number of reasons. I wasn't really familiar enough with John's, Linda's or Jen's music and I was a bit busy in places for some of it too, and I forgot to write down Trish's two. She did really well though, I think that's the large number of people she's played for before (T?). John Copping had a quirky sort of style, he's a character and quite the performer. I've got to keep an eye out for him in the future. Ditto Linda and Jen. They rocked! That was an incredible bill, I mean I _really_ enjoyed the music. I'm still so happy about this! :-) BTW Holly Golightly will play the Horseshoe this Thursday, July 22 with Fly Jimmy Swift and The Nines. (The Nines are pretty cool as well.) James. ^ * Of the album _Le_Dome_, the song Edgar was co-written with Yves Desrosiers who's also done stuff with Lhasa de Sela and whom you might've all seen at Lilith Fair (1997) ========================================================================== James McGarry | jmcgarry@UoGuelph.CA - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- An artist should be fit for the best society and keep out of it. - - John Ruskin ========================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Jul 1999 11:08:35 -0400 (EDT) From: James McGarry Subject: Re: Harbourfront On Fri, 16 Jul 1999 Starfall18@aol.com wrote: > Wait-so that isn't ognna be on SF? I do love when Emm does this as well... ...its a great cover, unfortunately it needs a band. She does well at covers, it shows off her love of music and she puts a neat spin on things. When ever she sits down to "Crazy Train" or something heavy and shows off her rock roots, I'm always reminded of the scene from Spinal Tap when Nigel sits down on the piano for the sensitive ballad ;-) > Hahaha thats nasty. Thursday Emm played at Molson Place... It was fun.... I personally like this outdoor venue, nice big stage, the waterfront right behind you. Most of the shows I have seen here are fairly relaxed and stuff, very fun. Emm actually played on a real piano at this show, which in itself was a treat... she was also accompanied by the talents of Stephen her drummer... I think Steve mentioned the most of the setlist for the show.... some of my favorites were Stereochrome and she played a bunch of other cool stuff which i have hardly heard before like the paul Wellar cover and Stardeep, which i think i might have heard once before... but i don't think so. Friday I did my photoshoot with emm in the afternoon... We took pictures around the area near C'est What... It was fun and I will let you guys know how they turned out. Afterward my sister and I met up with Trish and Julian for dinner, Went to C'est What to do a sound check and listen to my sister play a couple of songs... The C'est What Show was great..... Kudos out to the organizers..... And Kudo's go to the performers.... Saturday Saturday I hung out with Trish, Andrea and My sister.. went went around downtown and had bubble tea.. it was a lots of fun but no emm show today Sunday Trish slept over at my place on saturday night.... Sunday we went to Canada's Wonderland.... we had fun going on all the rides with the shortest lines..... After Andrea got off work we went to Toys R Us and picked up out 5 dollar Emm watches.... along with a bunch of other stuff at the party store next door. After a bite to eat at Harvey's we went to pick up Julian and Steve and headed up to Mike's place.... After a quick drive and a small pit stop, we made it to the beautiful horse farm.... Well it started off with Trish doing a 4 song set.... wonderful of course cause trish is "Awesome" and then Emm played.... It was a wonderful set.... with alot of songs that i have never heard live before.. i believe Julian mentioned these in his posts..... I will probablt have pictures back by the end of the week.... I'll let you guys know... I'd just like to thank everyone who showed up at the Orangeville 'Horse Farm Show', I personally had a blast with everyone who was there, and my friend Mike (the horse farm owner) enjoyed the day so much he's willing to open up his farm to all you quacks again. :) Thanks go out to Trish, the 'on call' musician, if you ever need anyone to play your party, just call up Trish, she'll be there :P And of course thanks go out to Emm and Joni, two of the nicest people i know. Oh and Joni's dog too, Orbit is quite the famous pup. A special thanks go out to all the animals at the horse farm for the entertainment, and i actually mean the animals, not the people playing killer hackey sack :P Don't stand near Julian while he's going for the hackey sack, he's bound to karate kick you down. thanks again everyone for the special evening, we'll probably do it again sometime. take care, - -Gian ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Jul 1999 19:01:34 EDT From: TrishTLC@aol.com Subject: I know you all hate me now Hey all, Yes, yet another recap of the weekend, I'm sorry, you can delete this now if you don't want to read it 'cause it's long. I did not go to the harbourfront show because I was studying for my gross anatomy final exam which was Friday. After possibly failing my exam(tee hee), I drove straight to Toronto. After dinner with Rannie, Michelle, and Julian, we got to C'est What early for soundcheck. After finding out I was performing, I did a quick soundcheck by playing a new song but I decided not to play it for fear of forgetting the lyrics. The other performers were very good as well as nice to me and I was glad to be doing two things I like at the same time(giving medical help to people - in an indirect way, and playing music!) Saturday was a relaxing day, just shopping and bubble tea and playing songs for each other and singing covers at Andrea's house! (hehe...Rannie, should we have recorded "Strong Enough"?) Sunday, I went to Wonderland and got to be a kid again b/c I rode some wicked rides and then got to go to Toys 'R Us and the party store next door and I bought a working watch that flips open with gum inside, superman tattoos, hawaiian leis, bubbles, and a sesame street balloon for Emm. When we arrived at the horse farm, we played some wicked hackey. I love hackey. I wish I didn't have my big 'ol 3 inch shoes on though. I played 4 songs before Emm went on, and on the guitar songs, Emm's strap kept bothering me, so I was a little squirmy. It was just weird to hear "requests" from the audience. Also weird to see them sing along to my songs... Monday, I needed directions to the place that's doing my CD from Emm, so she met me at this cool restaurant and we just got some breakfast before I headed to the CD place and then back to Detroit. > Thanks go out to Trish, the 'on call' musician, if you ever need anyone to > play your party, just call up Trish, she'll be there :P Oh yes, that is what I am called now b/c I never know that I am performing until I actually get to the venue(or horsefarm!). Here are some thank you's(like I won an oscar or something...) Tab - nice to meet you finally, thanks for being so nice to me Rannie - for the pics, the hospitality, haulin my ass around town Michelle - the *awesome* tape, the hospitality, "wesleys" Andrea - for the pics, the hospitality, the tickets, subway, Luigi, the graphic design, pop rocks Julian - "Joke's Lung", for the copies of my CD!!! Mike - for letting us invade your horse farm and last but not least, Emm - for getting this crazy idea that I am a musician and letting me "open" for you, and for the breakfast and directions to our CD manufacturer. How weird is it to say that? Nice to see Gian, James, Steve, Roberto, Tony Gryner, Stephen McGrath and Kristy again! peace, Trish ------------------------------ End of headline-girl-digest V2 #157 ***********************************
