I think I mentioned this on the list before....But Summerlong got a lot of exposure at Sears last month....it must have been shown at least 4 or 5 times a day, and every time it came on I was running around making everybody watch:-) I tried to grab that tape, but the manager got her hands on it before me....hmmph... Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Hey, all.... I am a lurker here, but I need some info, and I think this is a good place to find it. So, here goes.... I live in Michigan. My friend is trying to convince me to go with him on a lil' trip to Toronto, and I say that it's more likely I'll go if we can catch an Emm concert sometime while we're there. (The only reason my friend agreed to go is because he thinks she's hot. lol. but anyways.) We are looking to go on a weekend, and I did some research and found that Emm will be playing a couple shows that we might be able to work into our schedules. Here are the two shows: Fri Jul 16 Toronto, ON C'est What - Balkan Relief Aid benefit Fri July 23 Guelph, ON Hillside Festival We would be driving up from Michigan (Detroit area) to Toronto on a Friday evening, and by the looks of my map, Guelph isn't too far off the path. The problem is, I know NOTHING about either of these shows...timing (obviously, if these are daytime shows, we aren't going to be able to make it), ticket prices, age limits (I am 19 but my friend will still be 18, and I don't know if Canada does the age restriction thing but I bet they do), other performers, what kinds of venues these are....and if there have been any posts to the list regarding these shows, I most likely skimmed and deleted them, since I certainly never thought I'd actually MAKE it to one of them. So anyway, if any of you out there in Canada-land could help me out here, I would be most appreciative. Oh! Also, could someone tell me of any cool CD stores to shop at in Toronto? I'd like to find some rare stuff that I can't find in the U.S. Hey, I can dream, can't I? Anyway, thanks in advance. :) ~Beth~ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 06 Jul 1999 01:07:53 -0400 From: Shannon Subject: Lapse of memory I was perusing Emm's new bio that's up and came across this.... >"Serenade" "I first played this song at the Theatre for the Living Arts >in Philadelphia while on tour with The Cardigans. The guitar tracks are >actual takes from the very first 4-track recording of this song, made >in my bedroom back in October, 1998." Grrr...I was at that show and can't for the life of me remember a new song....I paid lots of attention the whole time... Maybe when Science Fair comes out it will refresh my memory... The videos (Summerlong & Hello Aquarius) can still be seen in .mov file clips on the Mercury Emm site: http://www.mercuryrecords.com/mercury/artists/emm_gryner/index1.html They are also linked on my Emm page. > > I know that videos are expensive to make, but they are an excellent way to get the message out there. > > My advice to Emm and her Manager would be to make a couple of killer videos and get them out there. (in Canada, you can get some funding for indie music videos). It might be tricky to get MTV and the like airplay without a major label doing promo, though. Sony has been doing an amazing job of marketing for Melanie. All those billboards and TV ads and things cost money! But yeah, I'd love to see a kickass Emm video. ;) Bob http://homepages.infoseek.com/~emmgryner/ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 06 Jul 1999 08:19:18 PDT From: kristy radford Subject: Re: headline-girl-digest V2 #143 I was thinking about how Shania Twain's great videos helped her career take off. I have never seen one of Emm's videos even though I have looked for them - e.g. Summerlong. I know that videos are expensive to make, but they are an excellent way to get the message out there. My advice to Emm and her Manager would be to make a couple of killer videos and get them out there. Attack the US market too like Melanie Doane. I would be interested in hearing what other Emm fans think. George - ------------------------------ well...... forst off, i detest melanine doane...oh jeez wrong thing to say.... but you are right, it really is all about marketing..it's just too bad that mercury didnt' give a damn and that FACTOR doesn't just hand out grants everyday. killer videos mean killer directors and killer cash. but it's not for lack of effort that emm hasn't 'broken the us market' either....enter, the Living Room tour. i think the inital idea of the living room tour was to get emm out to the states because you are right george, she needs more american exposure, but even a tour as lo fi as that is insanely expensive when you've just funneled all your cash into a new (and fucking brilliant i might add) album. i guess that's where all of us hardcore fans come in. :) i think it's all a matter of time until emm is heuge! idunno though.....thanks for asking! kr ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Jul 1999 13:29:38 -0400 (EDT) From: James McGarry Subject: NEC: TFC Today is the Dalai Lama's birthday (he's 64).
