She opened for the Crash Test Dummies. I met Rannie and Andrea C. up there and right as we walked in, we see Emm and her band unloading their instruments, so we say hi and she introduces us to her manager, Michael Murphy. But it was a little early so we headed off to the beach for a while to take pictures, etc. Then we arrive back at the Motorplex and Michael Murphy invites us up to "hang" backstage! It was actually a press box kinda thing where we could see the racing from up top and the stage was under us. It was so cool, the employees were so nice to us, asking us if we wanted anything every 10 minutes. I have to admit that I had a tiny school girl crush on Chris(the worker dude)b/c he was so nice and cute. Emm played awesome as usual. Her setlist was (1)Your sort of Human Being, (2)Wisdom Bus, (3)89 Days of Alcatraz, (4)Summerlong, (5)Crazy Train, (6)Revenge, (7)Stereochrome, (8)Good Riddance, (9)Boy Races. Afterwards, we went backstage again and I met Emm's bro, Tony, who's very nice. Emm and Michael M. were embarassing me by singing all my songs! Then we all went to my car and I showed all of them one of the new songs on my CD - - again, a little embarassing, but I was told to be proud of my music, by a certain someone named Emm. Ooh, and I got a sneak peak at the artwork to "Science Fair" Very cool, I might add. Sorry, I don't have photographic memory so I couldn't memorize lyrics! But what really made my day was hearing the Crash Test Dummies play Britney Spears' "...One More Time" as we were leaving!!!!! Trish P.S. Thanks to Michael for being so cool to me. :) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Jul 1999 12:17:38 EDT From: TrishTLC@aol.com Subject: Re: How cool is Emm's staff? - Grand Bend Oops! Love, Trish ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 04 Jul 1999 17:46:08 -0400 From: rannie Subject: Adventures at Forest/Grand Bend/Motorplex Hi guys well i was gonna write a post last night when i got home at 3:30 but i was way too tired to do so.... so here it is now I still can't believe i drove 3 hours to Grand Bend to see Emm play, but it was a really interesting experience. Andrwa and me drove down together to see the show... meeting up with Trish when we got there. Our first sop on our adventure was Forest Ontario. It was pretty much your sleepy Ontario township with a small central main street. We stopped and took pictures at the Forest sign, population 3500 or somewhere around that.... and stopped at a golf club where they had a sign that said PUBLIC welcome, which for some reason or another me and andrea found both very amusing. Then we walked around main street.. we were in search of blockbuster but could only find a dreamworld.. which was the only videostore.. and the only thing onpen on a saturday afternoon. After a few shots around town we ended up at Port Franks, which was uneventful and then went to the beach at err i forget the name of the place.....my ontario map is in the car and i forget.... After a bit of sightseeing we headed for Grand Bend and off to the Motorplex to get our tickets and meet with Trish...Well you guessed it.. the motorplex was this place where they held Drag racing.... very loud very interesting.... very macho... grin. Soon enough Trish arrived and we went into the complex, seeing Emm and the Band, unloading their stuff... when we first arrive... We say our hello's and Emm introduces us to her Manager Michael Murphy. After a few brief words we go on and enter the motorplex.... to find our self in a load arena for big growling motors. After a few minutes.. we decided to go back to the township and check out Grand bend (population 1000, less than Forest) and soon we realized that Grand Bend was the place to be. Apparently, just like Port Dalhousie.... Grand Bend was a big time touristy place. We made our way to the beach there and I took some pictures of Trish and admired the great view of some of the patrons enjoying the sand and surf. We soon made our was back to the motorplex, and were greeted by Michael Murphy again, who graciously invited us to hang out backstage with the band, with free food, drinks.. and the best part Air conditioning ( it was a sticky day out) Soon I was introduced to Phil, Steve, Kevin and Phil's Girlfriend Helena ( i think) and Chris.. the friendly bartender who reminded me of Steve Zahn from the movie "Reality Bites" it was fun... Soon, Emm and her band were up on stage for soundcheck (click click, take sound pictures from back stage) and then shortly after Emm and the crew were on and rocking away. I personally thought it was an amazing show.... Emm was wearing the amazingly cute Tanktop with a canadian flag design (see pictures when i get them on my sight) and she played quite a mix of new and old songs.... it was great. After their performace andrea and Trish and I made our way backstage where we watched the fireworks they had. we chilled out and had coffees and such... and pretty much hung out.... for a bit. That's where i saw the lead singer of the Crash Test Dummies swing by, with this amazingly bright pink boa... weird... A bit later. we all ended up in Tricia's car (Andrea, Emm, Michael Murphy and me... tricia was outside the car) for our own private Trish listening party... We heard Trish's newest song.. and were left in awe and amazement. (Trish you rawk.....) I can't wait to get my very own copy of your CD....... Soon we were back inside.. where i got pictures with all the guys and emm... and got to see the Science Fair insert.. very cool... we then slowly made our exit around midnight, where we said all out goodbye and made our way home.. Great driving Trish.... (we almost got lost a couple of times on the way home) I am sure i missed details here and there.... all in all it was a very interesting experience.... the whole day.... can't wait to get my hands on "Science Fair" as well as "Anything is Everything" Thanks again to Michael Murphy for his hospitality, Joni for Directions, Andrea for coming along, Trish for meeting us there and to Emm and her band for being so nice to us. laters... **************************************************** Rannie Turingan Toronto, Ontario, Canada ICQ:3857207 AIM:ranzTO http://webhome.idirect.com/~rannie/ **************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 03 Jul 1999 16:00:47 -0700 From: "Rayanne L." I've realized that posting advertisements for my shows aren't really relevant subject matter for the Emm Gryner email list. If anyone is interested in this idea, please email me and I will add you to a list of ppl to mail :) All the best, Rayanne *********************************** chickclick.com http://www.chickclick.com girl sites that don't fake it. http://www.chickmail.com sign up for your free email. *********************************** ------------------------------ End of headline-girl-digest V2 #142 ***********************************
