Dunn" Subject: emm's show last night I went to see Emm last night at Ted's in Toronto. She was on fairly late, but there were two opening acts -- Michaela Foster-Marsh and Cicero. I was running around all day so I didn't get home for dinner till late, and as such I didn't show up to the show until Dylan's set was almost over. I hope I didn't miss anything amazing :) (maybe someone wants to fill me in on how Michaela Foster-Marsh sounds) The sound system at Ted's is pretty decent; Emm's vocals and instrumentals were both crystal clear. Steve and James tell me that it didn't always used to be that way, so I'm glad that it is now. Emm played with a quasi-band -- drummer Steve McGrath, and a guitarist whose name conveniently slips my mind; I think it was Craig or something like that. Anyway, she was solo on a few numbers as well. The show was quite subdued (as compared to the Summer Solstice Festival show I saw last weekend) so it felt more intimate. I'm finally beginning to become familiar with her new material, and "Revenge" is definitely going to be one of my favourite songs from 'Science Fair' (well, okay, it is already) I'm still mulliing over "Stereochrome", however -- it's nice, but it's not amazing. There is one new song that I don't like -- "Stardeep" -- because I feel it doesn't go anywhere. Oh well, I guess one can't like everything, but overall it was a good show (also because she played "Julia" :-) ) Lots of local Emm fans were in attendance -- waves to Rayanne, James, Steve+Rachel, and Andrea C. I'll see some of you Wednesday at the Free Times! - - Julian P.S. James, care to post a set-list? [ Julian C. Cicero Rules! He should, like form a triumverate or something, oh, wait, he does! With Ray and Trish this Wednesday! I wonder if we should honourarily call them Augusta and Octavia... or have I lost everyone on this one...? *P.P.S. I like Hook Machine on piano much better, its a fuller sound and it doesn't stick so much in my brain driving me crazier and crazier until I have to leave it on reply for a few days. Don't worry its creeping in just thinking about the opening "hook"...everyone! "I left my heavy guitar...." **P.P.P.S. Which I liked, not right away, but the more I thought about it... ..its growing on me as we type. ========================================================================== James McGarry | jmcgarry@UoGuelph.CA - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "If the truth were self-evident, eloquence would be unnecessary." - Cicero ========================================================================== "Lets get together and reminisce/No matter how hard we might try Lets french inhale, let's french kiss" - Thrush Hermit "French Inhale" ========================================================================== ------------------------------ End of headline-girl-digest V2 #135 ***********************************
