Wonderful show. Marvelous show. But lets not dwell on this too much. Its a taste before Hillside. :-) Ok, so, I have no idea at all where Port Dalhousie is, well ok, its near St. Catherines, but hey, where? So, I turn down Lake road, I mean its on the Lake, right? Then Lakeshore, well sure, on the shore somewhere, then Lakeport, I mean it is the port afterall. So I turn into this parking lot and, well there's Emm and Kevin, so I know that fate itself has lead me here. No, really, this is what really happened. No maps, no directions, no ice cream just a karmic destiny ;-) The Set List - ------------ (01) Your Sort of Human Being (02) Phonecall 45 (03) Revenge (04) July (05) Acid (06) Crazy Train (Ozzy cover) (07) Hook Machine (08) Summerlong (09) Wisdom Bus (10) Stereochrome (11) Good Riddance (thanks Kristy!) (12) Sabotage (Beasties cover) (13) 89 Days of Alcatrez (14) Boy Races Encore (15) Julia * (Thanks, Emm, soooo much for playing Julia.) I really though the bridge in Revenge was super cool. Emm was really on. And everyone agreed Phil ruled during July! The new songs are just fabo! Science Fair is gonna rock! It was great to see everyone again, in the flesh (so to speak!). And wow, who is the nicest person on the planet? Emm's mom or Steve McGrath?! :-) :-) James. P.S. Remember you can hear our Bard, Emm and Phil and Kevin at Hillside in July. Phil is playing in an astounding 6 (SIX!) slots at Hillside with Emm, with Dave Clark, with Flashlight, with House of Velvet, ... I don't mean to go on so about Hillside, but... ...oh come on, its the best lineup ever! Ever! They even have these Sloan guys... from out east. Good food, good beer (Sleemans), good people... ...good karma! Yes, they even have karma there! :-) P.P.S. Rayanne, Trish, Cicero @ The Free Times June 30th! P.P.P.S. Dunn" Subject: a weekend of Emm Lots of things to report on the Emm front. I rented a car and drove down to St. Catherines this weekend to see Emm, first in Adam's backyard, and then at the Summer Solstice Festival in Port Dalhousie (which is effectively part of St. Catherines). Despite my REPEATEDLY getting lost, I managed to make it w/o too much stress. (My friend Lisa, who I picked up in Guelph, is also navigationally challenged, so she wasn't much help in that department :) ) Emm's show in Adam's backyard was excellent, of course. It was very relaxing, the weather was gorgeous (no blazing sun, but perfect temperatures) and Emm sounded great. I didn't write down a set list but she did a mix of old and new songs, and she did play Julia, which is perhaps the number one reason I'm looking forward to the new album :) I also met Mark Urban (hi Mark!) who took an eight-hour bus ride to come see Emm. Talk about devotion :) Met the (infamous?) Kristy Radford and her friend Carissa (sp?) -- Kristy is a riot. Carissa, Kristy and Emm's friend Dustin put together these "Emm Gryner living room tour" t-shirts which are available in a variety of eye-catching colours -- but only if you attend one of the living room tour shows. (Next week at Ted's you can spot me wearing my bright yellow LRT shirt.) As I was leaving I asked Trish (who drove from Detroit with her sister) if she'd brought any of her CDs, and she had, so I bought one. It is amazing! I was pleasantly surprised, and I don't mean to embarrass Trish in a public forum, but 'Breathe' even passes in the 'shivers down the spine department'. Highly recommended. Emm even got Trish to do a number in the middle of the show. Later, Lisa and I drove to see Emm at the Summer Solstice Festival show, where Emm just *rocked out*!! I'm running out of superlatives here, so I'll just say that I've never seen Emm with that much energy, wow! As I said, I am completely incompetent when it comes to following directions, so even with James' handwriten directions back to Guelph, Lisa and I still managed to end up in Brantford, ON at about 1 a.m. :-) Oh well, we eventually made it back to Guelph, and I swear, a bed has never looked that wonderful. All in all it was a wonderful weekend thanks to Miss Emm, and the hospitality of Adam and his family (great barbecue, I was stuffed!) It was also nice to see some old faces like James, Rannie and Trish, and new ones too (finally met Mr. and Mrs. Gryner) - - Julian (now playing: Tricia Concepion - Trail of Crumbs) P.S. "Phonecall 45" sounds great on the stereo of a Neon. :-P - -- Julian C. My sister and I drove from Detroit(aka "the hood") to St. Catherines for the first ever Emm Gryner Living Room Tour show. Met lots of people from the list - Adam(the host), Joni D., Kristy R., Rannie T., Lisa, and Mark U. for the first time but it was also a pleasure to see some familiar faces, well, just one - Julian! Emm's set in Adam's Backyard was Julia, Phonecall 45, Wisdombus, Southern Dreamer, Summerlong, Stereochrome, July, and Acid. All very awesomely played. Then Emm goes and asks if I wanna play a song, but I wasn't up to performing at all because I was feeling very down from the *terrible* show I played the night before. But, under the pressure :), I went up and Emm let me borrow her guitar and pic(which was a little drooly from being in her mouth, haha!) and played a song called "Anything Is Everything" and dedicated it to all the yellow fish in the world. Oh, I also bought a bright yellow "Emm Gryner - The Living Room Tour" t-shirt. Then, in Port Dalhousie, my sister and I sat down and Emm's mom introduced herself and Mr. Gryner to us. They're so cute and very nice! After Emm's awesome set of 15(count em, 15) songs(I think James gave the setlist) and after saying our hellos and goodbyes to everyone, we went back to crash at the Comfort Inn in St. Catherines. I can't wait to come back to good 'ol Canada on June 30th to play at the Freetimes with Rayanne and Cicero, hope to see some of you there! Trish P.S. thanks to Julian, Dustin, and Mark for buying my CD! It paid for my yellow t-shirt! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Jun 1999 16:13:57 PDT From: Mark Urban Subject: a weekend of Emm >Okay, my turn to talk about my trip! For the record, James' directions were perfectly fine, if I'd bothered to read them correctly.
