[Starfall18@aol.com] Emm in Ottawa May 22? [Paul Schreiber Subject: Emm show in Ottawa, May 22nd Hello all, I'm told that Emm is spending some time recording new material :) in April, so no shows are scheduled til May 8th in Winnipeg, opening for Alanis Morissette. (Is that the biggest audience she's been in front of?) Emm will also be performing at the Tulip Festival in Ottawa on May 22nd, with the Philosopher Kings. There are some new pics of Emm from CMW last month up at rollingstone.com in the Gallery section. The pics are by photographer Marcine Linder, who also has a gallery of great concerts pics of various bands at her home page: http://www.interlog.com/~marcine/ The pics are linked on my Emm page as well. ;) Bob http://homepages.infoseek.com/~emmgryner/ P.S. The March issue of Chart has an Emm ad in the back, with her promo pic and CD cover. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Apr 1999 12:46:50 -0400 From: rebel@istar.ca (Jess) Subject: Re: Emm show in Ottawa, May 22nd WOOHOO!!!!!!!! Hey guys, I just got a cd copy of _the original leap year_ from alvin (who i think is on both emm lists(?)), and i must say that it's incredible! of course, it's not as good as the real cd and i would still buy it if i found it, but it's really cool to be able to have this on cd w/o having to pay an arm and a leg for it...alvin did this for me at no profit to himself (just the cost of shipping and the cd itself), which was really nice of him..he did a great job with not just the sound of the cd itself, but also with the packaging =)...i've listened to it a couple of times through, and i can see why people were so shocked about how well emm did with not that many resources available to her...i mean, who else could've made a cd themself and have it come out better than most major-record label albums out there today? i think i prefer public over it for now, but that's probably just cos i heard it first (not to mention that i'm attached to songs like acid and phonecall 45)...but doomsday and hook machine are really growing on me, and this version of "july" is sooo much better than the public version...anyway, thanks again, alvin~ kay ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Apr 1999 19:24:47 EDT From: Songbird22@aol.com Subject: Re: the original leap year (wow!) I like Public a lot too, but in a totally different way. Leap Year to me, despite little flaws, is an incredibly powerful record. When I listen to it, I hear so much power and emotion in songs 1-6, then after Hook Machine I realize that the CD is only *half* over. The songs are original and interesting, the production quite good for a $1,500 budget... I adore "Fetching Decay" and "Big Day" and the versions of "Your Sort of Human being" and "July" over the Public versions... Wouldn't it be cool if Leap Year as rereleased? :) - -jessica http://adam.nettfriends.com/Jess ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Apr 1999 20:39:33 -0400 From: "~Wendi~" Subject: Re: the original leap year (wow!) okay, now i'm jealous! i've never heard *any* of the leap year album... anyone know: 1) where i can get my hands on a copy? Hmm... Well, you have a few options: you could find a kind soul who would dub you a copy of Leap Year (I'm not encouraging that, it's just an option.... :), you could check HMVs in Canada (though I think they are all out, I'm pretty sure, anyway). . . If you're in Toronto, check the used CD shops, and there are a few soundbites from OLY on Steve's site: http://webhome.idirect.com/~nsounds/emm Good luck.:) jessica http://adam.nettfriends.com/Jess ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Apr 1999 21:02:31 EDT From: Starfall18@aol.com Subject: Re: the original leap year (wow!) And the emotion is so *raw* on OLY.
