This single track alone is worth buying the CD! I've played it countless times already. I'm figuring by the end of the month the CD cover is going to look several years old. Not to mention Impossible Ray and "For Me" two immensely beautiful songs. And to quote Dylan himself, "Buy it for the artwork." ;-) It _is_ very well laid out. Rayanne started off with a very short set of three songs. I'd really love to hear more. Fortunately I, and _you_ too, can March 27, 1999 at the Freetimes Cafe, 320 College St. starting around 9pm. :-) Rayanne did "Cooling Down", "Ink" and "Waiting to Tell". "Cooling Down" is a new one and I think I'll need to hear it a couple of more times to get a thorough appreciation. I was glad she did "Ink" which is one of my favourites. "Waiting to Tell" then poof, it was over all too quickly. Rayanne continues to develop into a solid performer and I'm expecting very good things in the future! :-) I am so very grateful to Emm for convincing Noah to play last night. It was so very nice to hear him again. I've really missed his dead-on goofy charm. The utter oddness and anti-song parts of his songs. Always genuine and never too cool, Mr. Mintz was in fine form belting out old favourites and stuff with the ink not yet dry. More! We want more! Hopefully the crowd response was enough to get him back on stage even on a semi-regular basis! Madame President herself then took to the stage, sans introduction for two songs. Yes, just two! "Stereochrome" a new one (and a _gooood_ one!) and the infectious advanced-meme-song "Hook Machine", which is _stillll_ going through my head thank you very much! ;-) This despite Noah's pleas for "...the one about the Bus." ;-) and mine for "Sabotage!" :-) And the Main Event, Cicero aka Dylan White. Oh, I could go in to great detail about the songs not on the CD :-) (Including Elfman's Personal Waterloo!!!) and some of the new songs and the duet with Emm (The Wind and the Rain) [Note to self: blame today's wind and rain on Dylan ;-) ] and how wonderful they sounded. Oh that's all true. But.... I loooooved Cicero's cover of Heaven Too, a Red Autumn Fall show. Coincidentally the last band I saw at Ted's was RAF. Dylan does a mean Simeon Ross impression. It was a very impressive cover and made even more coincidental is the fact that Dylan and Simeon were both getting over colds when the played Ted's. And I'm a big fan of coincidence! Certainly my Cicero quote at the beginning was a propos, it was nice to see so many familiar faces there and, well, conscript them into postering. *wince* We own ya big! :-) In all it was a great nice, Dead Daisy really knows how to throw a party! :-) Take Care, James. ========================================================================== James McGarry | jmcgarry@UoGuelph.CA - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- An artist should be fit for the best society and keep out of it. - - John Ruskin ========================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Mar 1999 15:36:29 -0500 (EST) From: James McGarry Subject: Northern Sounds Showcase II -=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=- | Northern Sounds Productions Presents | | | | | | REBECCA TIMMONS & RAYANNE & JESSICA WEISER | | | | | | A Songwriter Showcase | | | | | | Sat March 27, 9:00pm | | The Free Times Cafe | | | | 320 College St (2 blocks west of Spadina) | | Toronto, ON 416-967-1078 | | | | Pay what you can | | Info at: http://webhome.idirect.com/~nsounds/showcase/ | | Or via email at: nsounds@bigfoot.com | | | -=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=- Rebecca Timmons is a local singer/songwriter/pianist with a confessional bent. Her eponymous debut album is wild ride of emotional pop/rock. Rebecca brings a frantic passion to each of her songs. Keep your eyes peeled for the release of her second album, _The Turing Event_! Rayanne manages to combine the down-to-earth nature of Canada's western provinces with Toronto's cosmopolitan style. A funky blend of folk and pop sung with grace and charm. Jessica Weiser brings a downtown feel to her particular brand of acoustic indie-pop. Soul-searching and ear-catching melodies fresh from the Big Apple.
