Subject: Re: merging the lists Ok, about the lists merging, i've read most of the posts pro and against it, and me being the person i am, am going to stay on the fence. I think merging has its upsides and downsides, on the one hand, it takes away all the duplicate posts, it joins all of emm's fans together and makes things easier somewhat, with knowing you don't have to send vital info to two lists, or not knowing if you sent vital info to both lists and accidentally leave one out. But there is also the downside to merging, it can be viewed as taking the 'Wisdom Bus' identity away, blending it in with the 'mainstream' of internet mailing lists by placing it on the smoe server, and it gets all those loyalists out of lurkdom :) i wouldn't mind having the two lists joined, letting wisdom bus keep its identity but also having a loose mail option, sort of like marriage, need to compromise :) Ultimately its the decision of the list owners, so i'm just giving a bit of insight in the two views.. i guess. :) take care all, - -Gian ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Check out http://webhome.idirect.com/~nsounds for Tour and Artist info, sound clips, reviews, and articles on new up and coming artists out of Toronto, such as Emm Gryner and Sarah Slean. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Mar 1999 15:26:31 -0500 (EST) From: James McGarry Subject: Re: merging the lists On Wed, 3 Mar 1999, Gian.C. wrote: > I think merging has its upsides and downsides, on the one hand, it takes > away all the duplicate posts, it joins all of emm's fans together and makes I think for the most part, they are already joined together, I'd hazard a guess and say there's a lot of duplication in the member's lists. > things easier somewhat, with knowing you don't have to send vital info to > two lists, or not knowing if you sent vital info to both lists and > accidentally leave one out. With me it isn't accidental, I'm not on WB and so can't follow up on stuff I post there, so, um, I don't post anything, usually I'll manually extract WB from any reply. (WBFolk, yer not missin' much :-) ) > But there is also the downside to merging, it can be viewed as taking the > 'Wisdom Bus' identity away, blending it in with the 'mainstream' of Do the two lists have a separate identity? i.e. are posting rules, etc. different on WB? The name can be kept and aliased. And much of this could be addressed in an as yet unwritten FAQ. > internet mailing lists by placing it on the smoe server, and it gets all > those loyalists out of lurkdom :) But Gianny, everyone love SMOE! SMOE is alternative, grass-roots, community-building. :-) > i wouldn't mind having the two lists joined, letting wisdom bus keep its > identity but also having a loose mail option, sort of like marriage, need > to compromise :) Don't all smoe lists have a loose mail option? How to the listowners feel about all this? Jessa/Jess? Food for thought... A lot of good points are made on both sides of the equation. However, as a Gatekeeper for our company's email system, I would just like to emphasize that managing email is already a very time consuming task. What with all the different email lists, unsolicited promotions and client messages that we all get. Anything that will help reduce overall email is a blessing - as much as I love to get email periodically about Emm and her music. Just some more food for thought. George ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 03 Mar 1999 14:45:44 PST From: "Tab Siddiqui" Subject: Blockbuster stage appearances at CMW Hey, folks... Okay, they've finally posted the info. about who's playing at the Canadian Music Week trade show/expo thing (they call it The Music Show) at the Harbour Westin Castle hotel this weekend. I was thinking of going to see Emm, but it was previously stated she would be playing the Blockbuster Stage on Saturday at *3:40*, but the CMW website has her listed as going on at *2:40*. Can someone confirm this? Joni? If you're thinking of going, make it worth your while (there's an entrance fee) by checking out some of the booths and seminars. Also playing on the Blockbuster stage on Saturday is Melanie Doane at 5:40, and she will be signing autographs afterwards at 6:00. Also of note, Jann Arden is signing (not playing) at 3:00, local singer-songwriters Tamara Williamson and Arlene Bishop are also scheduled to play during the weekend (Saturday and Sunday respectively, I think) - check the CMW site (www.cmw.net) under 'The Music Show' section for more details. - - Tab :) P.S. While I'm posting to *both* lists yet again, can I just reiterate the fact that the merger idea had nothing to do with "competition" - just a lot of us were tired of getting the same posts twice. I myself crosspost to both lists because I know there are a handful of people who are on one and not the other. Bottom line is, though, if the administrators of one or the other don't want to merge, they don't have to. They should talk it over, decide soon, and let everyone know. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Mar 1999 20:28:09 -0500 From: Joni Daniels Subject: Emm stuff It's a busy week for Emm Gryner (well, it is Canadian Music Week afterall). Hey everyone, I'm not going to say anything about the merger, so you can read on... I was just wondering what the heck happened to the Tape Tree #2? I was a branch leader person but I still haven't got my tape back. That is all, Trish P.S. I'll be posting info about my upcoming CD release soon! Next week, I am personally handing a copy to Emm in London(yes I'm driving two hours from Detroit...again).
