[Songbird22@aol.com] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 28 Feb 1999 13:19:34 -0500 From: Steve I Subject: merging the lists This email is being crossposted on the Wisdom Bus and Headline Girl mailing lists: Jessa wrote (on the Wisdom Bus list): >also, i was approached by someone with >the request that we merge with the other >emm gryner list, headline-girl. i'm rather >hesitant about the whole thing, but i thought >i'd throw it out to you guys and see what >you thought. do you want to move our list to >headline girl or do you want to stay the >same that we have been? let the discussion begin. I hadn't meant to go public with my suggestion, but since it's out in the open now (and I'm glad Jessa is seeking everyone's opinions), I thought I should clarify my suggestion a bit: I didn't suggest that the list be moved to headline girl, that makes it sound like I wanted to get rid of WB entirely (not true!!). I suggested that wisdom bus and headline girl be merged under wisdom-bus@smoe.org. I made the suggestion for the following reasons: **1.** everyone would be on the same list. Currently there are people who are only on one list, those people never see the posts on the list they're not on. 2. people on both lists would stop getting duplicate posts, and wouldn't have to remember to keep posting to both lists to reach everyone. 3. it would simplify things in general, since there would only be one emm discussion list. 4. it would give everyone the *option* of subscribing under the loose mail format rather than the digest format currently offered by WB. 5. smoe has the advantage that all mailing list digests are archived automatically on the smoe website, so the archives are always up-to-date. Plus there's all the other advantages of majordomo, which I won't go into here. *** Of my reasons, #1 is the main overriding reason for my suggestion. *** A couple of other things I'd like to make clear: I did *NOT* make the suggestion to merge the lists because I thought either Jessa or Jessica was doing a bad job. **I think they're both doing a wonderful job on their respective lists.** I just thought that it would be easier all-around if everyone was on one list, and nice if a loose-mail version was available to those who wanted it. The "new improved" Wisdom Bus would hopefully be maintained by Jessa (Jessica has indicated that she'd probably want to hand headline-girl over to someone else anyway so she can concentrate on her own music career etc.). I'm interested to hear what everyone thinks. It will benefit all Gryner fans. You're on both, I think, aren't you Josh? ;) Wisdom Bus is the first Emm list, created last summer by Jessa, and is run through AOL. It is digest-only format, and she also runs a really well-done, comprehensive homepage to go along with the list. You can find it, and lots of great Emm info, etc., here: www.chickpages.com/girlbands/wisdombushq I'm all for merging the lists and think it'd be great to strengthen the lists as one and form an even larger Emm internet fanbase. :) - --Jessica http://adam.nettfriends.com/Jess np: jane siberry "calling all angels" :) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Feb 1999 14:11:39 -0500 From: Steve I Subject: Re: merging the lists At 12:27 PM 2/28/99 -0600, Joshua E Adrian wrote (evidently from the headline girl list): >What is the Wisdombus mailing list? Here's something I hadn't anticipated: I might actually succeed in my quest to bring all the emm fans together not by bringing the lists together but by making everyone join both lists! :-) ================= to answer Joshua's question: Wisdom Bus was the first Emm discussion mailing list on the internet. It is available in digest form only. To ride the wisdom bus, send an email to Wisdombus@aol.com with the word 'subscribe' in the *subject line*. For more information, go to the Wisdom Bus homepage: http://www.chickpages.com/girlbands/wisdombushq/wbindex.html ================= And for all you Wisdom-Bus-Riders who've never heard of 'headline-girl': Headline-girl is another Emm discussion mailing list set up to give people the option of subscribing under loose mail. To join the loose mail version, send an email to headline-girl-request@smoe.org with the word 'subscribe' in the *message body*. To join the digest version, send an email to headline-girl-digest-request@smoe.org with the word 'subscribe' in the *message body*. ================= Hopefully we can bring the lists together. One thing I neglected to mention in my last email: The last thing I want to do is make anyone do anything they don't want to do. If Jessa doesn't want to move Wisdom Bus to smoe, or if Jessica doesn't want to give up headline girl, or whatever, that's perfectly reasonable, my suggestion was just that, a suggestion. I just hope that everyone will give my idea serious consideration. That's all...
