Happy Holidays everyone! Went to the Edge 102 Humble and Fred Xmas show this morning. It was nice to see the acts all play acoustically, even though their turns on stage were so short. Wild Strawberries sounded great unpluuged, Emm looked lovely in black and did a great version of "Summerlong" and brought down the house with '80's chestnut "Holiday" (boy, that gal loves her retro stuff ) on piano. Barenaked Ladies closed the show on a bright, fun note. Totally worth getting up that early in the morning, as I also got to chat with all the performers, which was nice. I was just wondering if anyone managed to tape the show as it aired on the radio. I wanted to get a broadcast-quality recording of the show, but since I was *there*, I couldn't quite tape it on the radio. So if anyone did, please let me know. Thanks, Tab :) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Dec 1998 01:23:36 -0500 From: Paul Schreiber Subject: Horseshoe show Hello there. :) I awoke, for some strange reason, *before* my alarm clock, which had been set for 6:50. This is particularly odd, because I usually don't get up until 7:30 or so for work. After a quick stop at the Tim Hortons, I boarded the 7:22 GO train to Toronto. A short subway ride and a bit of a wait for a streetcar later, I found myself behind a wall of people in the Horseshoe. I could hear, but not see, the Wild Strawberries indulging Humble and Fred in some insightful dialog. Letting the guy in front of me do his best Tom Rathman immitation, I was able to get just behind the post near the front in time for Emm's set. I spotted the first of the usual suspects: Rannie, who had been at the Shoe since six a.m. Emm played an all-too-short set consisting of "Summerlong" and "Holiday," as has been mentioned. The crowd responded well and applauded loudly, but she unfortunately didn't perform as much as we would have liked. I caught up with her after the show, arms full of gifts bestowed upon her by the adoring crowd. There had been some debate over whether the Barenaked Ladies would show, as Steven Page's wife -- or perhaps Mr. Page himself, if you believe everything you hear -- had recently given birth to a boy. But show they did. This was my first time seeing the Ladies live, and they had as much of a great time as the crowd did. Their set included "One Week," "Brian Wilson," "It's All Been Done" and an interactive rendition of "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer." They are a *very* cool bunch of guys to see live. I may just go pick up a copy of Stunt in the next couple of days. Hellos to Tab, Mark (who I caught on the way out), Rannie, Andrea (who probably wondered who she was waving at) and Joni. A while ago I signed up for that "other" :) Emm list, and I think I got a grand total of one message from it. However, one of the recent threads here was a reply to WisdomBus digest. Can anyone help me out?
