And Mercury/A&M/Island/Polygram, which had been purchased by Seagram was recently taken over by Universal, which made them the #2 music company, or something like that. Polygram employees are allowed up to $300 worth of Seagram stuff. Kinda a neat fringe benefit, I guess. If Poltz is really on the block, maybe Atlantic'll pick him up. They've already got my other favourite San Diego musician. :-) Paul shad 96c / 3A CS / mac activist / eda / fumbler fan of / jewel / sophie b. / sarah slean / steve poltz / emm gryner / / x-files / buffy / dawson's creek / habs / bills / 49ers / t h i n k d i f f e r e n t. As editor of Chart she "commissioned" several early articles on Emm.* Including a rather excellent and certainly charming piece by one John Teshima. James. P.S. And one on Sarah Slean as well... :-) ========================================================================== James McGarry | jmcgarry@UoGuelph.CA - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- An artist should be fit for the best society and keep out of it. - - John Ruskin ========================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Dec 1998 17:52:51 EST From: TrishTLC@aol.com Subject: Toronto Trip - Fun, but Tragic Hey all, I just got back from Toronto two hours ago. I"m stressed to all hell. I'm running on 9 hours of sleep in three days, I drove to and from Detroit to Toronto, almost got in about 10 accidents, got a parking ticket, got lost driving AND walking around town in the FREEZING cold weather, and my godsister's friend got stabbed to death after she got mugged in Toronto. It was on the news and everything. She was only 20. We were just leaving their house(that is where we stayed) as they got the call about the tragic news. But, there IS some good news, if that is possible. I went to the Horseshoe(oh yeah, we were late for that too!!!) today, just in time to see Emm and BNL play. They played awesome. Emm played "Summerlong" and a pretty cute version of "Holiday" by Madonna on piano. She said it was "against her religious beliefs" to play a Christmas song, so she played that! She was being pressed for time though because they didn't even talk to her in between songs and she only played two and I think the others played 3 or more! I thought that was unfair. Then I talked to her after the show, and gave her a Thank You card and present(for something she did for me). She said she would hang out with us, but she had to drive back to Sarnia, and we also had to drive back home. It IS Christmas Eve!!! So, hopefully next time. Happy Holidays! I managed to finally get a copy of "Women and Songs 2" and I got an extra copy...originally for you Jess W...but since you already have it, if anyone would like it, e-mail me. I also got an extra copy of Sarah Slean's "Universe", so e-mail me if you'd like that. How could they let the Arrogant Worms play 6 or so songs but Emm only 2 ??? It was great to: talk to you Rannie, shake your hand Tab, shout across the crowd to you Chris, and mumble to you Paul .... it was not great, however, to leave during the BNLs to catch my bus back home and not get to say "hi" to Emm. Mark (wishing you happy holidays and definitely liking Toronto very much) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of headline-girl-digest V1 #90 **********************************
