Oi, dunno how to do that...I guess I'll just guesstimate and hope for the best. So who else is waking up early Thursday for this? I'm hoping this show will make my normally crappy holidays into something I'll enjoy :-) ~Andrea ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Dec 1998 05:08:55 EST From: TrishTLC@aol.com Subject: I got "headphone ballads" today! Hey, Man, it's 5 in the morning and I've been up since 2:45!!! I can't sleep. I think I'm excited about going to see Emm. We're leaving for Toronto this morning, from Detroit. I just wanted to say that I won't have to yell at Emm tomorrow because I received my copy of "Headphone Ballads" in the mail yesterday! I bought a blank tape to record it because I know I'm gonna be listening to it 24/7 for the next few days and I don't want to wear it out! Okay, I'm gonna get ready for Toronto!!! Trish ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Dec 1998 17:04:33 -0800 From: deanorez@juno.com Subject: SEC: Recommendations First, what's the word with Emm as far as Mercury Records? Since Danny Goldberg has left, word is Emm is on the bidding block (along with Poltz, Kinnie Starr, and a dozen others on Mercury.) I'm going to assume Atlantic and Sony are interested because of their much-needed roster boost and the revenue they have to work with (I actually think WORK would be great for her; great people on the staff and we know they can get her on "Felicity" or "Dawson's Creek" -- which would make her album a Hot 100 contender.) Most of the tracks on her album are very WB friendly. I'm sure Mercury Record's Artist Development VPs already thought of it but they've been probably too busy worrying about their next paycheck. If you like Emm you'll probably like: Sam Phillips Echobelly Stretch Princess Sixpence None the Richer Remy Zero Imogen Heap Starbelly Tanya Donelly Heather Nova Ash Chantal Kreviazuk Patty Griffin Bic Runga http://adam.nettfriends.com/Jess/ Other Pop/Rock Recommendations: Placebo Jude Drugstore Dudley Pink Martini Galaxy 500/Damon & Naomi Eleni Mandell The Murmurs Ruby Diver theaudience Gregory Page Moonpools & Caterpillars It's interesting that people are into the work of U.N.K.L.E. because their mixes are oftentimes complex little novellas that might necessitate the use of Cliff Notes to interpret. I've been a fan of Shadow (aka Josh Davis) since seeing him live a few years ago when he was marked as an elite. I've often said his live shows can be more fulfilling than seeing a full orchestra perform Beethoven's 9th Symphony. And "Preemptive Strike" and "Entroducing" are much more fluid than "Psyence Fiction" so check them out if you get the chance. Also, has anyone heard U.N.K.L.E. might be doing some scoring for one of the Star Wars prequels?... I'd say I was more into the painkiller/Hip-Hop scene this past year than any other genre of music, even more so than the vastly over-publicized Drum & Bass/Trip-Hop movement -- which U.N.K.L.E. is not. DJ Hive, DJ Qbert, Cut Chemist, DJ Carbo, Big Daddy Carlos, Raymond Roker, Optical, James Lavelle, and some of the contemporary artists like Deejay Punk Roc, Josh Wink, John Carter, Jungle Brothers, Dub Pistols, and Prince Paul are making efforts to not only take the music to the 21st Century but *make* it the music of the 21st Century. We shall see... Have a great holiday, everyone. ___ ger ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
