Yes, you can get them by venue... straight from the FAQ: http://www.cmj.com/Marathon98/ "Q: Do you have day passes? Night passes? One-day-only passes? A: There is only one pass available, which allows admission to all CMJ-related events, including showcases, panels, keynotes, exhibit area and films. Admission to all events is based on a first-come, first-served basis, due to room/club capacities. The passes are valid for all four days and nights of the festival. Most CMJ-sponsored showcases are open to the public (there are exceptions) and tickets to each individual event are available through the venue's box office. Q: Are there volunteer positions available? A: Volunteer positions are open to everyone, although it's helpful to be in the New York metropolitan area. To apply, fax a resume and the volunteer application to 516.466.7161, Attn: Erica Pitts Q: Is there a registration discount for industry people? A: The only discounts we offer are for early registration and to students with a valid college ID. Check out the registration form online for prices and deadlines." Mark, from what I know of you, you might do well to volunteer. A set number of hours and you'll likely get a laminate... ...you'll also get to meet a lot of industry people, bands, fellow fans, etc. Hurry though they might have filled up by now. Good Luck! James. P.S. Just a weird request, please, can no one _ever_ mention how much CMJ costs to people involved with NxNE! Please! :-| ========================================================================== James McGarry | jmcgarry@UoGuelph.CA - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- An artist should be fit for the best society and keep out of it. - - John Ruskin ========================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Oct 1998 09:08:30 -0500 (EST) From: James McGarry Subject: Re: Sarah Slean in NYC On Thu, 29 Oct 1998, Kari LeSage wrote: > Any idea how they're doing tickets for this? Through CMJ registration if you want the whole deal: panels, showcases, exhibits, films, etc. "General Fees: At the door: $370 Discount Student Fees: At the door: $205 On-Site Registration Schedule ============================= All badges can be picked up at the Millennium Broadway Hotel, 145 West 44th Street, NYC, 3rd Floor, during these times: Wednesday, November 4: Noon - 10 p.m. Thursday, November 5: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Friday, November 6: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday, November 7: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m Payments: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, check and money orders are accepted. Payment must accompany registration form. U.S. funds drawn on US bank only. NO REFUNDS OR CREDIT" Its only really worth it if you wanted to do the whole 4 days, panels, etc. i.e. if you were thinking of a career in the music industry, or had an urgent need to see _all_ the shows :-) (1000+ bands!) If you want a scaled-down version of this, that's a little further afield, CMW (Canadian Music Week), NxNE and SxSW are also good choices. I was also there, although going in the opposite direction on my way to Toronto, which explained why I was unable to make the Woodstock show. A real shame, considering that I was due to see Belle & Sebastian, which was cancelled. *Sigh* Nonetheless, I hope to see some of you at the CMJ fest !
