We did this on FTE awhile back, but has anyone else heard anything different than Emm actually sang? Um, I used to think the chorus to YSOHB went like this: "i sweep your face across the floor tile" :) and there are others but i won't embarass myself. Anyone else? jessica n. weiser http://adam.nettfriends.com/Jess "i'm a loser at love, i'm a flower in the mud" -sheryl crow ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Oct 1998 00:33:59 -0700 From: deanorez@juno.com (G Perez) Subject: "Wisdom Bus" Great choice for a single. I agree that almost every song is a potential hit on _Public_. The only song I think lacks the strength of the others is "July." Is the single still hitting radio on 10/20? If you get a chance, pick up Stretch Princess's self-titled album. I mentioned the band a few months ago on ITW after their showcase performance at the Viper Room. This band sounds very similar to Emm (or vice versa if you're a bigger SP fan), especially on the songs "Twisted" and "Free." The lead vocalist, Jo Lloyd, writes melodies that parallel Emm's writing, both musically and vocally. They're also a great live band -- although the guitarist is a slightly neurotic fellow (but aren't we all...). The album hits a lull on the 8th track but it's definitely worth a listen. They're opening for Third Eye Blind and Eve 6 in the coming weeks. ___ ger ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Its got that big hook of a chorus "I blame it on July, I blame it on myself, God gave me the summertime and left me with nothing..." A lot of punch in there... ...outside the chorus, dunno, maybe you have a point there... ...but man!, I love that chorus :-) ...personally I hope "Wisdom Bus" is a little delayed as a single, I think "Summerlong"'s got a bit of life left in it. My roommate, who normally wouldn't mention it, said, "I'm hearing that Summerlong song everywhere now..." and not in an unhappy way. I've heard a couple of people in various newsgroups or whatever complaining about how they _don't_ like Summerlong... :( Speaking of Summerlong, has anyone found the single yet? jessica n. weiser http://adam.nettfriends.com/Jess "i'm a loser at love, i'm a flower in the mud" -sheryl crow ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Oct 1998 16:33:40 -0400 From: "Kari LeSage" Subject: OAC: Emm Gryner on Alloy For those of you having trouble finding Emm on the Alloy site, here's basically what it says about her: EMM GRYNER is one of our most FAVORITE NEW MUSICIANS. There aren't that many artists who WRITE all their own MUSIC and LYRICS, PLAY piano, guitar AND BASS and run their own INDIE LABEL when they're only 22-years-old. Emm's major label debut record, Public, is in stores now. Buy Public from Tower Records now! FYI: Order ANYTHING from ALLOY and get a FREE EMM GRYNER SAMPLER -- WHILE SUPPLIES LAST!!! The Stories Behind My Songs, By Emm Gryner HELLO AQUARIUS - A song about battling the demons of coming of age and also finding a way to survive daily nightmares. In this case, salvation comes in the form of an Aquarian. WISDOM BUS - A song about questions with no answers. A song about ignorance. A song about feeling alone. SUMMERLONG - This tells about the deterioration of summer, how a cold feeling can set in when you lose someone you care about. Inspired by a Jesus & Mary Chain song although you would never know it. DEATH IS A NEW DAY - Fun and games re: unrequited love. Inspired by lying around listening to a whole lot of Richard Ashcroft [lead singer of The Verve]. PHONECALL 45 - This song is about endings and how endure them to get to the other side. The good side. ACID - Written after receiving a tear-generating letter. THE GOOD YOU MAKE - Inspired by the common man's inhumanity to the uncommon man. A tribute song. YOUR SORT OF HUMAN BEING - A series of questions borne out of un returned feeling set to the dissonant tones of rattling acoustic guitar strings in E minor. THE END - This, the oldest song on the album, was written about the trials of losing someone you love. JULY - Something about climate influencing the cupid. Another fine selection about obsessive behaviour. 89 DAYS OF ALCATRAZ - Feeling imprisoned by one's own choices. A song about insanity. THIS MAD- I wrote this song after stumbling in from a horrific night of trying to work through a difficult relationship. It saved me from something and wasn't originally meant to be heard by the outside world. DIVINE INSPIRATIONS Some of the artists I love... RON SEXSMITH who I discovered while finishing the mixing for Public in London. His record "Other Songs" became a soundtrack to my final month of working on the record and I have gone on to fall in love with everything he's done. MAZZY STAR whose stuff is like drugs to me. Addictive, heavy, beautiful, necessary. SINEAD O'CONNOR who could sing the back of a cereal box and still overwhelm me. PETER GABRIEL who I discovered when I heard "So" at a young age. Since I was sheltered I had no idea until later that he put out other great solo records previous to "So", but "In Your Eyes" remain some of my all-time favourites. "Here Comes The Flood" an "Biko"and "Solsbury Hill"and.the rest of them. My hero. There are also some MPEGs of Summerlong there too.
