I was thinking to myself before the show, we must be like the only 3 people here who've heard of Emm. :) Her name wasn't even on the sign outside, or on the tickets. I recognized her before the show -- "Hey Emm!" and said hello and introduced myself. She was really nice. :) Spirit of the West had a room with a security guy outside, but nothing for poor Emm. I saw SOTW had a notebook ... playing computer games maybe? It was really cool to see how well it went. Emm was great, she worked the crowd really well. Fed Hall looks basically like this: there's a stage, a big floor area in front, and seats on three sides. There are more seats upstairs. So she gets halfway into a song and the four of us decide to grab a spot. (There are like five people on the floor now.) A song later, I turn around, and wow, was it packed! Emm kicks ass! There was of course, the drunk guy or two, but she handled it so well. "Yeah, baby!" Oh yeah, the ubiquitious Kevin Fox :) was on cello. Talked to him after the show. He rembered me & Ed but forgot our names (again). Did seem to remember the name of some pretty girl though... Emm's setlist: ??? (don't know the first song) Wisdom Bus Summerlong Acid Hello Aquarius -- to Dennis (although half the crowd claimed to be aquarian) July After her set, my friend Steve disappeared, mumbling something about going to buy her CD. :) I got this note from my Steve today: >Just wanted to say thanks for inviting me to come along last night. I >wouldn't have gone otherwise & it was a lot of fun. Emm's CD is really >cool too (have been listening to it all day here at work). "illusion never changed / into something real" - --Natalie Imbruglia, "Torn" ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 26 Sep 1998 19:58:55 EDT From: NickelsKP@aol.com Subject: *Emm contest thanks/half sorry...?* my first post on Headline Girl, and one of my few posts to any list, period...go me :) but anyway... First off, a huge thank you to the sponsor of the Emm contest...anyone who is willing to give anything away, whether it's their time, their compliments, or in this case, a *CD* expecting nothing in return is...well, let's just say there aren't that many people like that these days. That's the thing I love so much about the mailing lists I'm on is that people are more than willing to go out of their way to, in Jill :D's words (is she on this list?) "share the music". In fact, I never would have found out about Emm if it hadn't been for a generous person on the ITW list who did the "Emminent arrival" contest awhile back. ..well, I take that back...i would have *heard* about her from ITW and FTE, most notably from people like Jess W., Steve, etc., but i never would have actually *bought* her CD if it hadn't been for that amazing C'est What show...since then, I've bought _public_, annoyed my friends about how awesome Emm is (and I even got one person to buy _Public_! :)), signed up for two Emm mailing lists, signed up for the EmmPress mailing list, signed up for the snail mail Emm list, and spent more time at Northern Sounds than I care to admit for fear of sounding insane;)...still trying to track down OLP...I might try A&B again because last time they didn't have it.... anyway, I guess what I'm saying is thanks to all those people out there who are willing to help..whether it's by dropping a name of an artist here and there, holding contests like this one, looking up info on other artists for people like Jill :D does (wow, second time I've mentioned her, and I don't even know her :)), offering to dub a tape for someone, or whatever...*warm fuzzies* :) on another note, does anyone have any thoughts and/or actual knowledge of why "Half Sorry" wasn't included on _Public_? that has been my favorite Emm song since almost the very beginning when i heard it from the C'est What gig, and it would have been awesome hearing a re-worked version of it...it's the main reason I started to listen to the tape so much after i got it, and it's also what got my friend hooked on Emm...i even got her to use it in one of the Dawson's Creek fan fics she was writing :).... I know she left some other songs off of _Public_ also, like that one she sang just after she passed out the pork rinds ;) (btw, what's that song called anyway?), so was it just that she didn't feel they were strong enough to make the final cut, or what? and are there any future plans at all to release half sorry on cd? like either on a single, an EP, or possibly even the next album? any insight would be appreciated :) eek..i just realized that half of this paragraph was questions...oops Later, Kay ------------------------------ End of headline-girl-digest V1 #28 **********************************
