Hey guys, Happy Friday! Along with the promo cassette idea as a way of spreading the word about Emm, I've been trying to think of other ideas of ways we can help expand her fan base, particularly through the 'net, which I see as a great way to promote an artist. Other Mailing Lists- particularly if you're on email lists for other artists (especially female-artist) there are *always* people who are looking for new, great music. Without the mention and continual, subtle dropping of artist's names, I wouldn't have been introduced to Emm's music in the first place last year by Gian and Steve. . . On the Sarah McLachlan list alone Tab and I have generated lots of good buzz about Emm and she's gained tons of new fans from that list alone, not to mention Ecto [1], etc. Newsgroups- *especially* alt.music.s-mclachlan, rec.artists.tori-amos, alt.music.alternative-female, alt.music.suede, alt.music, alt.music.alternative, etc. Again, it's a great way to reach a lot of people who are usually looking for something new and different. Websites, etc. Anyway... does anyone else have any suggestions? Also--I promised to get her a copy of my CD when they were done and they are! Yay! :) There's 600 of them in my bedroom! ;) But with her touring schedule I'm not sure if I should mail it to the PO Box or if anyone here will see her recently and could maybe get it to her? That would rock. Email me if you can help, thanks! [1] Ecto is a mailing list devoted to the artist Happy Rhodes, but lots of other artists are talking about and discussed in detail there as well. There's a homepage, which you can find through Yahoo, called the Ectophiles Guide to good music and they have a panel which listens to CDs and writes recommendations, etc., about them, which are posted to the site as well as taking comments from the list about the artist's CD or live performance and posting it to the site. I'm not sure of the URL offhand, but if you look for it in Yahoo or Hotbot it should be there. Emm's page was only recently added, I haven't seen it myself yet, but I hope that'll hel as well, to promote her in some way... Hope everyone has a good weekend! :) Happy B-day Emily! :) jessica n. weiser - http://adam.nettfriends.com/Jess "what has happened" - my 5 song EP available now through the website! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Sep 1998 17:07:25 -0400 (EDT) From: Paul Schreiber Subject: Eye's "Public" review this is a bit old, but in case you missed it: http://www.eye.net/eye/issue/issue_08.13.98/music/ondisc13.html EMM GRYNER Public (Mercury/A&M/PolyGram) Although the debut from Toronto's Emm Gryner is up against a ton of competition in the pop world, listening to Public, it's clear she's worked hard to make an album with equal parts brain and emotion. Catchy choruses, shuffly drum loops and large doses of Mellotron carry the songs, but I also like the fact that her lyrics sound more like excerpts from a beat-up notebook she totes everywhere than like pages from the diary in her bedroom. A pleasant surprise from a talented homegirl. -- EH [EH is Erin Hawkins] Paul shad 96c / 3A CS / mac activist / eda / fumbler fan of / montreal canadiens / jewel / sophie b. hawkins / sarah slean / / x-files / buffy / dawson's creek / bills / 49ers / t h i n k d i f f e r e n t. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Sep 1998 17:08:22 -0400 (EDT) From: James McGarry Subject: Re: EC: Spread the word about Emm campaign! / is anyone going to see her? Probably the best place to see Emm would be tonight at the Planet Smashers/Flashlight gig at Lee's Palace, but that's probably no help... You'll find Emm's entry under G and there's some comments about the albums, etc. This guide is a *Great* way to learn about other musicians as well.
