Uhh... this is completely pointless but I'm *so bored* and I *can't write* and I'm really frustrated-- I've been working w/ a vocal coach for a couple of weeks to help me along and figure out my breathing and some things I've been doing wrong/right/etc. After learning some of the things I know now about pronunciation/etc, I listened to Public today in the car after listening to OLY and there are some major, significant changes in Emm's voice and the way she says certains words now, etc. Though I thought it could either be the sparkly production on the album or a lot of cool effects on her voice -or- the positive effects of a lot of touring and stuff, i wondered if anyone knows if she worked w/ anyone on her voice before going back into the studio? It doesn't matter, I'm just curious... Since I'm so bored, I started thinking of all the little things that make that CD so great, here's a few: - -the very beginning of WB, where it sounds like someone's amplified shaking dice ;) doyouknowwhatimean?? - -the part in WB where there's a little guitar solo and she sings that "oh oh ohhhh" part really loud ;) - -the guitar solo in "summerlong" - -in Phonecall 45, at the end, when she repeats "when do i begin" over and over, how the guitar goes down a semi-tone each time she does it; and the cool drum thing at the end - -"i've got enough indigo to wash away my heart" -- the way she says "heart and" and that whole line:) - -"tell meeeee how unworthy" sounds so strong now:) - -the way she sings the second verse of "the end" and the dadada part at the end - -instrumental part of "89 days..." and all the cool images this song congures up for me [i want to do a Video treatment for this song! ;)] - -"see how we've changed to each other" I've really grown to love Public. I was so like "Oh, I like OLY better" when it first came out but I love them both now. I definitely miss "Fectching Decay" and "Doomsday", though, I'd love to hear how she reworked those, if she ever would... Anyway... hope everyone is having a good weekend! :) jessica n. weiser - http://adam.nettfriends.com/Jess "they'll be sorry when the star buries the girl, so help me vanish, help me get myself outta here" - e. gryner ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Sep 1998 12:28:36 EDT From: XfileGrrl@aol.com Subject: Re: EC: Emm vocal coach? I think that line used to be different, too, she used to say something else, I think, but I can't decipher what it is from the tape.:) Listening to "Acid" right now, ironically :) jessica n. weiser - http://adam.nettfriends.com/Jess "they'll be sorry when the star buries the girl, so help me vanish, help me get myself outta here" - e. gryner ------------------------------ End of headline-girl-digest V1 #15 **********************************
