It didnt work for Liz Phair and it sure as hell wont work with Paula. I dont want to be too negative, because a strong collaborator could bring out the best in her. I could hear great stuff out of collabs with Sarah McLachlan, Peter Gabriel, Dolly, Prince (hahah!), Annie Lennox etc...but I dont really want to hear her team up with Dianne Warren (no disrepect, but ugh.) or Glenn Ballard (wilson phillips/alanis/aerosmith). DEFINATELY not P. Diddy or Missy E. I dont want a hack to suck all the life energy out of Paula's bold and original work to make something "radio friendly" that would end up so bland that no one cared. This must be really frustrating for her. I wish she would also look into producing some indie acts and singing some bgs. She didnt have the time when deluged with offers after her grammy noms, but she sounds like she has had time now. Also, from the artist business side of things, I dont think its cool for a label to reject an album. The money to make the album, pay the producers, etc all come from the artist royalties. So that 50 grand + already spent on the album is now flushed down the toilet if they are starting over. rant- Steven from Helsinki - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Btw, if you are an AOL subscriber the above instruction will work for your EVERY time. Liz Phair can try to make it sound as if it's a brilliant move on her part (as she has in interviews), but I cant imagine that anyone truly believes that her record company wasnt acting out of anything but greed. Suggesting to someone like Liz Phair that she needs help with her songwriting is an insult. The news about the record company rejecting the initial album is very disturbing, but not surprising. I guess we can safely assume that it wasnt "radio-friendly", though I cant say that most of Amen was either. However, I do not expect (or want) radio-friendly tracks from my favorite artists. Though I very much doubt that it's a good thing that the label rejected the album, I guess we could look at this another (tongue-in-cheek) way: if they rejected this album, yet accepted Amen, maybe they're saving us all some pain!
