I just happened to post something that other people responded to. However, on similar note, it's seems I'm definitely being singled out for other things I can't take credit for. Apparently someone over at the Paula Cole Discussion Board thinks that I'm responsible for all the troll posts they've been getting. I saw my name mentioned in a direct threat against a troll. It's funny... I haven't posted there in probably 4 years, but I'm still being discussed and maligned. I suppose I should be honored in some bizarre way. But I'm not. And as anyone who truly knows me would confirm, if I was gonna bash that bunch, I'd sure as hell attach my real name to it. ;^) Anyway... we all know they're freaks, so I'll just consider the source and continue enjoy their amusing paranoia and self-inflicted pain from afar. >Are we all older or simply more mature than the board listers? ;) (I am >probably older than most, but that's another story.) From what I've seen, it's a little of both -- although there are a few of them that are definitely older than a lot of us here and way too old to be that scary in their devotion. >I am sure that some of us were at one time guilty of idle worship (yes >idle, not idol), meaning the artist you idolize could do no wrong.... you >simply love everything they do and are afraid you won't be considered a >"real fan" if you criticize anything they do. Heaven forbid the person you >idolize is actually human and capable of making >mistakes! The closest I ever came to that level of blind distraction was an obsession I had with George Michael in the late 80s. But that had more to do with wanting to have wild, sweaty, monkey sex with him than getting all up in arms about anyone criticizing his music. He's just lucky I didn't have any means of stalking him or he might have been outed in the news long before that unfortunate episode with the undercover dick in the public restroom. >You really don't have to love everything Paula does. Watch it there, cupcake... you're stealing my lines. ;^) >Goddess knows there are songs that I skip over (Black Boots) and there are >songs Tina wants to skip but I slap her hand (I won't reveal hers without >asking her first)! We all have our taste differences. That's what makes >life interesting. I'd be interested to know which songs we all skip over, >aside from the ones that were singles.... I already confessed one of mine! Truth be told, I don't think I've had one of Paula's CDs playing in my ears since shortly after AMEN was released. In fact, there've been times when I've considered selling off my collection. I have really rare stuff that I know no one else has ever heard, and it just sits in my CD case. I don't know what happened really. Somewhere along the line, other artists took her place in my CD player and I never got back to listening to her again. I think it'd take seeing Paula perform live again to rekindle whatever it was that caught me the first time around. But, for now at least, I pretty much skip all her songs. Not necessarily because I hate Paula's music (although "Black Boots" and the entirety of AMEN will likely never vibrate my eardrums again), but because I found others to love while she's been away. What can I say? After that last letdown, I'm not THAT devoted, I guess. Maybe someday she'll win me back. Probably not. I don't think so. >Does the Library of Congress, where songs are registered for copyrights, >provide access to interested persons? I wonder. I doubt it. In Paula's case, I think you'd have to contact BMI for permission to hear it, let alone buy it. I ran into a brick wall when I tried to get my hands on videotape copies of two of her videos a few years back. As a total aside... to this day, I've never seen the video for "Be Somebody" and I lost my copy of the video for "I Believe In Love" in the WTC collapse. I had a lot of my stuff at work because I was still working half-heartedly on a Paula website. If anyone has either of those vids for trade, please let me know. >PS: Forgive my ignorance, but what's the significance of "Dorothy?" Is that >her middle name, or birth name, or what? You got it. Activity on this list! i'm in the same boat with kenn in not finding myself playing paula's cds anymore - with the one exception of her performance on the first walden woods benefit cd. she sings the jazz standard "you've changed" and absolutely slays it. the more i listen to it the more brilliant her vocal performance is to me. the thing that it highlights for me is her virtuosity as a singer... and her songwriting skills, however strong, don't come close to her level of mastery with singing. i did listen to amen, somewhat randomly, recently (this is maybe the 4th time i've played it) and i was struck by her great sense of melody. anyway, nice to hear from people! - -rachel in snowy boulder - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Btw, if you are an AOL subscriber the above instruction will work for your EVERY time. Actually, I never post there and haven't for years. I only started paying more attention after I visited the site to hear Paula's little Dubya ditty. I noticed that intelligent life was challenging the otherwise mundane points of view that were also de rigeur over there and started visiting every now and then to see what was being said, especially regarding Dubya and the war in Iraq. Looks like someone's been playing with his new Junior Conspiracy Theorist Kit. >Now, don't think of me as a "freak". I'm just an observer, much like >yourself ;-) What thou sayeth.
