I haven't had a Paula Cole CD in my stereo in probably 7 or 8 months. Griffin's been in there nearly every day for the past two years making me a happy boy. If I wasn't convinced then, the advance copy of 1000 KISSES that's been in my ears for the past month definitely cleared up any doubts. Griffin's skill and consistency have turned my head. That's not to say I'm turning my back on PC, but, as far as I'm concerned, the "key player" probably should have sat out the last game and come back when she was at the top of her game. I'm as hopeful as anyone that she'll be in fighting shape when she shows her face again. >who is REALLY looking forward to the US release of Heather Nova's new > >album, "South," on April 23rd Sorry to report that SOUTH is a shocking departure from classic Nova. Think Britney and join me in being very sad about it. _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Btw, if you are an AOL subscriber the above instruction will work for your EVERY time. Yeah, know whatcha mean. Funny how an artist can really dominate one's attention - that's why I won't bring certain CDs in the car anymore, cos I won't listen to anything else. Funnier how one just moves on when more output isn't forthcoming from an artist. I really wonder about long layoffs in terms of career planning. Same with Sarah. It can take a lot of doing to regain momentum. During such layoffs I inevitably am drawn toward other artists, and make intriguing discoveries. Recently these include Eddi Reader, Ray Mason, and most of all Gandalf Murphy and The Slambovian Circus Of Dreams, who mix the earthy and ethereal albeit from a more masculine perspective. And Patti Rothberg's new album is amazing. Maybe the six-year gap is the right move. Worked for Lucinda Williams ;-) >but, as far as I'm concerned, the "key player" >probably should have sat out the last game and come back when she was at >the >top of her game. I forgot how disappointed you were in that. I've gotta admit, I hardly ever listen to it myself. >Sorry to report that SOUTH is a shocking departure from classic Nova. >Think >Britney and join me in being very sad about it. Again, know whatcha mean. Much of it is more lightweight than I'd have liked. There are a couple of songs that rank, well, close to her previous work, but by and large it looks as though the old saw about suffering for one's art is true, even in reverse. Looks like happiness agrees with her, and her art is suffering ;-) Still, I've been waiting for it to come out in the states since it was released in Europe about 8 months ago, and I'm glad whatever hurdles there were have been cleared. Who knows? Maybe she'll have a big hit from this, and tour over here again. She's amazing live, and will surely do old stuff as well as new. BTW, "Maybe An Angel" was a real big help for me coping with the events of 9/11. Not sure why, but somehow playing it over and over restored some sense of grace and beauty to my battered sensibilities. Sort of pushed it into my ears and it made its way into my mind and soul slowly but surely. JourneyBear who is looking forward to the live Donna DeLory disc. THAT should not disappoint!
