Songster headlines at Java Joe's May 4, 2001 Good things come in small packages. Such is the case with Amilia k Spicer (the "k" is silent, she says) and her self-produced debut album, "Like An Engine". Both have been garnering extraordinary praise. According to Songtalk magazine, "Her voice and lyrics slip into your consciousness like a seductive lover." The Monterey Herald extolled, "Intimate and seductive songs, Like An Engine is hauntingly gorgeous, just a plaintive piano and Spicer's husky, moody voice." The 98 pound wonder who can eat anything without gaining poundage, and loves Jack Daniel's and sushi, is one high energy package who hasn't let success get in the way of her dreams. After a short film she had worked on was nominated for an Academy Award, Spicer focused her creative juices on her music, sharing the bill with such luminaries as Martin Sexton, Dar Williams, Slaid Cleaves, and other notables, at such venues as the Bitter End, McCabe's, Club Passim, and the Main Stage at the Kerrville, Texas music festival. Named Female Artist of the Year by the National Academy of Songwriters, her unique shows are poetic, playful, and intimate. She has the uncanny ability to make you feel like it's just the two of you in the room. One critic likened her to a French chanteuse, another said she had more sizzle than any pop diva he had ever seen. Intimate and visual, like walking into a movie, her songs will pull you into them and make you yearn for more. After a recent show, the legendary Jackson Browne, introduced himself to Spicer, and enthusiastically called himself one of her fans. You might just do the same. On Friday, May 4, at 9:00 p.m. she makes her San Diego debut as the headline performer at Java Joe's, 1956 Bacon Street, in Ocean Beach. Owner Java Joe Flammini, who discovered Jewel, and watched her become a pop icon, thinks he sees the same magic in Spicer. Reservations are encouraged by calling 619-523-0356. Tickets cost $10. On May 5, Amilia k Spicer performs at the Rhythm Cafi in Oceanside, 4231-C Oceanside Blvd. Call 760-631-4466 to reserve a ticket. Seating is limited. ### - -- _____________________________________________________ Joel Siegfried San Diego, California Email: mailto:ecto@home.com Vox: 619-222-9236 Fax: 603-649-6355 PayPal: https://secure.paypal.com/refer/pal=ecto%40home.com Female Vocalists: http://members.home.net/ecto/ House Concerts: http://darkthirty.com/ Java Joe's: http://javajoes.org/ Twiggs Bakery: http://twiggs.org/ _____________________________________________________ - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Btw, if you are an AOL subscriber the above instruction will work for your EVERY time.
