One would think she'd be released from her obligation . . . or even have recourse for legal action as to THEM holding up THEIR end of the bargain, were she so inclined. The music industry is a bastion for arcane and inscrutable legal and business practices. Seven albums? Hoo boy! Well, as long as she has self-determination and artistic freedom and can put out her music the way she wants to, I don't care whose label she's on. I'm still here too! While I've never been particularly active on the list, I've been here for quite some time -- previously as "LBeachMike", which remains my better-known identity :) Perhaps I've got some things of interest to add here.... First let me say that a new Paula disc is great news -- can't wait. Every one of them has been very unique, and that is something to look forward to. I appreciate artists who are able to evolve in their musical style so significantly between albums. BTW, we can look on the bright side of the last not being a blockbuster album -- as such, when she comes around touring on the forthcoming album, she'll likely be playing smaller gigs, and that means it'll be easier to see her up close in more intimate settings. That's worth a lot. However, hopefully she find the success she deserves.... I know that I'd previously mentioned Donna Delory when I saw her at Fez in NY. For those who loved her live as much as I did, she supposedly is working on collaborating with the other of Madonna's two main backups (her name eludes me at this moment). I think we'll be hearing from Donna Delory pretty soon. If anybody knows more, please share. Perhaps I'll stop by her website to make sure I've not missed any current happenings. Well, interestingly, when I saw Donna Delory perform, the opening band/guy was called "Spooky Ghost". Jay played drums with him as well, and it was overall very interesting stuff. However, it seems that whenever Jay is playing drums, I am totally captured by the performance. He adds an entire dimension to any music. Since then, I'd gotten to see Jay play again with Spooky Ghost in a place called The Living Room, right on the outskirts of the East Village in NYC. While I wasn't as much into Spooky Ghost this time around, Jay was pretty damn amazing. I love how he creates all sorts of unique sounds by being completely innovative. Anybody else get to see him there? Anyhow, I'd not realized that Jay had also played with Jonatha Brooke, as well as many others whose music I like quite a lot. It seems that I like a lot of the same stuff that Jay apparently likes. Same with Tony Levin. I find it interesting when you find so much artist overlap with specific artist who just happen to wind up playing with all of your favorites. Anyhow, I've been discovering quite a lot of new music lately, so here are a few artists that you guys may find interesting and that I don't recall seeing mentioned on this list.... Grey Eye Glances Daniel Lanois (try the song "The Maker" -- sounds very Peter Gabriel-ish) Chris Whitley Jennifer Knapp David Sylvian Jess Klein Lee Ann Womack - I hope you dance (haven't heard the rest of the album, but this is an beautiful song) Will Kimbrough Lucinda Williams - yes, I know most of you know her, but I've only recently discovered how much I like her! If you've not ever heard "Sweet Old World", it is a really beautiful song that you must hear! Well, that should be enough for this moment. For all of you out there who are not anti-napster, you can find me and a very large collection of songs on Napster as "LBeachMike". Enjoy. Hey all, I don't know if I've contributed to the list at all, but I just want to speak up and claim my presence! Also, has anyone heard of Nelly Furtado? Her song "I'm Like a Bird" is awesome and is in my head! I see the video on VH1 every so often in their morning videos, so you all should definitely check it out. - -Nathan - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Btw, if you are an AOL subscriber the above instruction will work for your EVERY time.
