Jay played a hand drum > for a while, then switched with Quinn, and finally switching back. >> yea, Quinn (still can't get used to calling him that) was Jay's "mentor" when he was in HS, he really looked up to him. It is true, neither of them played on the type of "sets" they do now when they left OOB and went their separate ways...it is kinda bizaare how it all evolved! They lost touch for a long long time, and when they hooked back up in CA, they discovered how similar their styles had become. It is really freaky...but I think really cool. They are both such great people. :) ps..I can't seem to get the Donna DeLory page to work for me..even though I have flashplayer, so if anyone can let me know if they are going to be in Massachusetts any time soon, I would appreciate it! I met her at Borders here last year, and really hit it off with her, and other band members, not to mention was blown away by her music. Her music really "spoke to me"..dare I say, even more than Paula's does. thanks! paula R - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Btw, if you are an AOL subscriber the above instruction will work for your EVERY time. Since we've been on the topic of Jay, I thought I'd post this. I also happen to think that Jay is not only a really down to earth, genuine person, but he's a genius drummer as well. I love how he makes such brilliant music with such a very simplistic set of drums, in comparison to the larger set that you see with big bands on the road. That is what I call talent. Thanks Ms. Remick for helping to mentor such a brilliant, simplistic & artistic human being. - -Brian __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I know, the site is currently pretty weird. I let it sit and came back and there it was. They aren't coming to MA this time, mostly NY and Philly (Donna's mgr is from there). Here you go - 8/23 - The Point - Philly 8/24 - Deep Blue - Wilmington DE 8/25 - Shampoo - Philly 8/27 - Twilo - NYC 8/28 - Fez - NYC All the info IS there - you have to click on the funny looking icons in the column in the middle of the page. Well, I think it's unfair to compare artists, as each will tend to serve a unique function, touch a listener in a certain way, that doesn't easily translate to another. Still, it's hard to discuss a person's music with someone who hasn't heard it, without using some artist with whom both are familiar as a reference point. That said, I also find Donna's music enchanting, almost trance-inducing, and very moving without being challenging. That is, easy on the ears, mind, and heart. Paula's music, as brilliant as it is, can be demanding and heart-wrenching. Donna makes music that is eerily moving without being in-your-face. Not sure how she does this, but it's a fascinating balancing act. And yes, she and Cameron are both easy and quite pleasant to talk with. Apropos of nothing, I tend to switch my screensaver at work between Paula and Donna. It's been Donna for a few weeks now. Peace JourneyBear Braving the flames since 1998 PS: In case it escaped everyone's attention, Donna DeLory, in addition to everything else she does, is dating Jay Bellerose, Paula's drummer. That's the connection. >ps..I can't seem to get the Donna DeLory page to work for me..even though I >have flashplayer, so if anyone can let me know if they are going to be in >Massachusetts any time soon, I would appreciate it! Somebody slap me... I completely forgot that Hassan (Hakmoun- I'm sure it has been mentioned, but he is Paula's sig. other) was there and came on stage with the band for God Is Watching both nights in San Juan!!! It was wonderful! He came on towards the end of the song, during the break in music, right before the "just love one another" repeating part. (Hope you know what I mean 'cos I should be in bed right now, so I might not make much sense trying to put this all into words.) He chanted some and danced some (how can any human being possibly jump that high???) and then beat on his bongo drum(?-not sure... I'm not a musician) for the remainder of the song. Paula just beamed while he was on stage with her! It was very heartwarming, to say the least. You could tell when they were apart, because she would talk about how much she missed him if you listened close enough during "Feelin' Love". She did it at both Tahoe shows, then in San Juan (when he was back) she was saying something like, "I miss you so much when you're gone..." Anyway, it is wonderful to see her so happy and in love. We kind of teased the 2 of them after the 2nd show, though, telling them they have alot of catching up to do since Tina and I just passed our 7-year anniversary!!! (I think that's something like 3 reincarnations with the same mate in heterosexual terms! ;) --50 points if anyone can tell me where that's from!) Another thing I forgot was that the 1st night, Paula's mic went out during Black Dog... she just took Doug's and kept going.... but the 2nd night, it went out while she was beat-boxing during Jolene. This time, she hurled the mic down onto the stage, took her back-up mic, and said something like, "I try to to control my temper, but sometimes it feels really good to whip one of those fuckers!" then she counted 2, 3, 4 and re-started the beat-boxing... a really cool moment. We got 1 & 1/2 times the beat-boxing for the price of one! ;) I really need some sleep! Good Night!
