Sigh.  

Why is she nude in the video?  She has already been called on "copying"
Alanis' hairstyle she used in JUNKIE on her AMEN. album cover.  I'm sure the
comparisons to Alanis' THANK YOU's nudity will continue.  Ok. Ok.  The whole
concept of "I am emotionally naked in my singing, I want to be physically
without limits" is just artsy BS.  The song has nothing to do with that.
She proved her "nude is art" point on the cover of THIS FIRE.  Why go
somewhere she's already gone?  And since other artists have done the same
thing in videos, (to varying degrees of success or mockery) it won't get her
any additional attention that I can see.

Why am I complaining about a nude Paula?  I should be thrilled.  I guess I
feel it distracts from the message of the song.  Unless Brian was minimalist
in his discription, it sounds like the video is pretty boring.  "Look black
kids in the ghetto!  I'm STREET!  Look!  I'm nude!  Sexy sexy!"  

I'm not asking for a literal retelling of the song.  I think the videos to
COWBOYS and IDWTW and ME were all very interesting and very artistic.  (I
still think ME is a classic...Paula is absolutely hot in that.)  I just get
these icky Michael Jackson vibes that Paula is singing "I'm a wannabe
somebody" instead of "I want to be somebody."

I know.  I'm yapping on about something I know nothing about.  I haven't
seen the video.  I might love it.  

But I'm already a bit disturbed.  After two aborted releases of this single,
they keep going back and remixing it...and according to Kenn, they did a
fine job on the newest mix...then they DON'T USE IT FOR THE VIDEO?  HUH?

It has been OVER A YEAR since the album's release.  IBIL is a club smash.
Sales of the remix are hot on ebay.  Nasty comments are showing up at
amazon.com that the import singles aren't the remix they are looking for.
Trading for the remix is heavy on NAPSTER.  Yet, WB never took advantage of
the situation.  They really could have hit the ball out of the park if they
would have released the new remix of BE SOMEBODY backed with the remix of
IBIL for a MUST HAVE CD single.

I love Paula's music.  I just don't love the way she's being handled.

Hmmm...the video was actually pretty good, a bit
cheezy at times, but good.  The nakedness wasn't
sexual at all, but at the same time it wasn't very
original.  Actually, you don't even see Paula all that
often.  I would like to see it again since I had just
awoken at 4am and still could barely keep my eyes
open.  Who knows, for all I know I was dreaming <g>

I was totally disappointed that they didn't use the
new mix cause it's da' bomb <g>.  Once you hear the
mix, the album version just becomes a total bomb. 
It's amazing how powerful new music can make the same
vocals sounds.

If anyone does get to see the video, I'd like to hear
a detailed report and perspective on what you thought.
 I already emailed VH1 requesting it.
