Subject: (harbinger) PC At The Newsstand In the past couple of months, I have found Paula on the cover of two magazines. The first was the April issue of *Natural Living*, which is along the lines of *Vegetarian Times*. She had the whole cover on that magazine with a two- or three-page interview and photo layout. Nothing major in that one. She was basically just discussing her approach to diet and talking about her new cat (for whom she whips up semi-vegetarian homemade kitty chow). I didn't bother to post the interview because it wasn't really all that interesting. The second appearance was in this.... well.. hm...it's one of those magazines you see on the newsstand in the section that has all the New Age periodicals. Y'know... the magazines that are all about UFO abductees, pyramid power, Tantric healing, chakras, past life regression and so on. I think you probably know what I'm talking about. The title of this particular magazine is *Magical Blend*. Paula's photo from the cover of the IBIL single is featured in an inset in the upper right corner of the front page with a caption that reads "Paula Cole Still Believes." I wasn't too surprised to see PC in *Natural Living*. It's a pretty respectable magazine - right up there with Vegetarian Times. But, this latest appearance in Magical Blend is a little disconcerting. With articles about a touchy-feely spiritual commune somewhere in Italy and some wackadoo chick named Julia Butterfly Hill who lived in a giant redwood for 2 years to protest forest clearcutting, I really gagged when I saw that Paula chose to put herself in that mix. Maybe this is just a harbinger of things to come. After all, she is reportedly leaving NYC for La-La Land (also known as the Ethereal Kingdome of Fruits and Nuts). Next thing we know she'll be Grand Marshal of the Burning Man Festival. ;^) Anyway, I'll transcribe the interview in a separate post. Not a lot of new ground covered, but it's interesting to see her perception of where her head and her career are at. More to come... Some of us are neither fruit nor nuts. Besides, I don't think you have truly experienced any Paula song until you've heard it overlooking the Pacific Ocean while eating granola after having just gotten back from yoga class.
