I too saw Paula on the 8th of April this month in Tokyo. David is right about the quality of the performance. Close to flawless, although the song selection was a disappointment for me. Watch the Women's hands was the only harbinger track, with the emphasis on the commercial hits from This Fire and of-course Amen. The highlight for me was Paula's rendition of Pearl, which truly took my breath away. Also of interest was Paula's plea for gun control before singing Be Somebody. I agree with others who have talked about the chorus not fitting the song, but hell, the song still stood well above anything else I've heard this year on radio. Carmen was introduced as a love song, and did indeed get hearts a fluttering, mine at least. Being an Aussie, and having lived in Tokyo for the past two years, I had never had the opportunity to catch Paula live until now. Radio has been kind to Paula in Tokyo. I actually heard Be Somebody on the radio last week, but haven't been able to find it here on single yet. I know a lot has been said about Amen and the change in direction. In my mind, albums as amazing as Harbinger only occur once in a lifetime, and those such as This Fire maybe once every few years. Cut the girl some slack. Statistically, she was due for a let down. But I still enjoy Amen, and think its one of the best attempts at talking about religion- without preaching, since XTC's Dear God way back when I was still in nappies.
