She was awesome! I miss seeing her play in the piano though. :( Sorry if this review will be short, I left early during her second set when she was performing "I Don't Want To Wait," since I started to feel ill. The crowd was a nice mix, a variety of ages from the past Paula concerts I've attended. I was mostly around a family of four with two young children. Here's the setlist I remember her playing: Rhythm of Life (opened with this song) Tiger (2nd song of first set) God is Watching (ended first set) Mississippi Throwing Stones Feeling Love I Don't Want to Wait Me Cowboys (huge crowd cheering) I Believe in Love and I think possibly La Tonya, not sure. Was there anyone else who attended this concert? I hope she sang Karmen and few songs from Harbinger. Oh yeah, and I do wish I had given that lady I saw with a videocamera my address so I could get a copy. Drats! Who knows? She might be on this list. :) If anyone taped it or got good pictures of the band, please email me! April: I caught Fiona Thursday night in Wallingford, CT, the opening night of her tour. Opening nights always have a certain magical quality, probably mostly due to nervous energy, especially in younger artists, and Fiona was no exception. She put on a wonderful performance. Despite her self-admitted poor stage banter ability (as evidenced by awards shows past), she delivers her work in a heartfelt, emotional, genuine, and yes, mature manner. This is in stark contrast to the way she speaks to the crowd between songs....ohmygod, you'd think you were, like, at a high school, like, talent show, y'know? It's a metamorphasis as soon as her fingers meet the ivory, especially on her many soul-searing ballads....girl becomes woman. She becomes engrossed, thankfully seeming to not hear the many (ANNOYING) screams of "I LOVE YOU FIONNNNNA" during softer moments, much in the way Paula delivers "Ordinary." I agree, April, her lyrics are astounding. They stand up even without the music. It would appear that the public's ho-hum reception to her album further supports Paula's "no room for introspection in the market" theory. I'd highly recommend her to anyone who enjoys the Paula/Sarah genre. Speaking of Paula......Kenn, is IBIL making a comeback? I heard it yesterday in Sears, last weekend on a ski slope in New Jersey, and again on an AC radio station. Perhaps the new manager is already making something happen? I went to the Tallahassee show on Feb 24 but I haven't posted a review because I feel that reading someone's review can spoil a future concert attendance. Reviewers tend to point out potential "surprises" of the performance, which may detract from another's future concert experience. Also, there have been cases where I attended a show and was not treated to some "special events" that prior shows' attendees had experienced, so I was left feeling a bit short-changed after the performance. Obviously, there are some reviewers who do a good job of not spoiling things, but that seldom occurs on fan mailing lists: typically a fanatic will list all the songs performed, who performed them, what the performer wore, the encores, surprise guests, who they met backstage, et cetera, ad nauseam. (BTW, I don't think that I'm a reviewer who would do a good job. ;) That said, here's my review: The Tallahassee show was friggin' great! Go see Paula live! Re: Peter Stuart, yes, he was the opener. He was simply OK. I respect uniqueness, so I just couldn't get past his vocal similarity to Adam Duritz and some songs' similarity to Counting Crows tunes. But don't let that stop you from enjoying him. For all I know, Duritz ripped off _Stuart's_ vocal stylings! Have fun, Kingsley - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Btw, if you are an AOL subscriber the above instruction will work for your EVERY time.
