As for someone else's question about Paula Cole's new album. About 4 or 5 years ago, I complained to vigourous protest on this list that I really didn't 'get' the big fuss about this singer. Well, last summer I got it! After a huge blow to the ego when my lover of 5 years, and would-be future husband (who interestingly enough, I met through this listserv back when he was still subscribed), deserted me after beginning an affair -- *right* when I thought I was finally coming to terms with some longtime self-esteem issues -- I picked up a copy of Cole's "This Fire." Holy &@$& !!! I couldn't believe I neglected this vocal talent for so long! And many of the lyrics were so dead on as to what I was experiencing at this point in my life. For instance, I really love that line "I can finally be a teenager at age 26," cause that is how I feel right now. I didn't get to enjoy that so-called 'carefree youth' a lot in my teens, but I have this new fun side storming out of me and now my wet-towel ex isn't around to extinguish the fire ;-p ...besides which, in a couple weeks I just so happen to turn 26. See how it all works out? I swear this album got me through a looong way. Very self-empowering and reassuring towards my sense of self-worth and sensuality. Which meant that when "Amen" came out, it inevitabley made less of an impact on me. I still enjoy the album and would recommend it to anyone, but it hasn't grown on me yet the same way that "This Fire" has. A couple days ago, I also got her first album "Harbinger" which has some very gorgeous tracks, but I've only played it once so far. "This Fire" is the one I take when I need something good to belt out on my singalong road trips. : ] I think I was just hard on Paula back then because I thought that she had a LOT of nerve struttin' her stuff up there with MY Petey, thinking she could just come along and sing the parts of the Reverends Kate and Sinead. I mean, really?!? Who did she think she was? - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Btw, if you are an AOL subscriber the above instruction will work for your EVERY time.
