I did almost all my Xmas shopping over the last four days, and was shocked I heard IBIL on audio systems at Walmart, Ames, and mall. I haven't yet heard it on radio (of course, I live in Western Maryland --land of BAD RADIO). And I've never seen the video. So is it a "mall song" anywhere else? I normally don't even "hear" mall music --totally tune it out. But it's kinda disturbing to me that it's mall music. Oh, well, I shouldn't complain--usually those places play country music in this area. My take on Amen-- I don't like it as much as Harbinger or This Fire. But it has grown on me. I just like Paula's voice. I think Pearl is excellent. The other songs are lite listening for me. I play it on computer CD while I'm working and make it background music. I just can't find the passion for this one that I had for her previous two releases. But I don't hate it. I play it just because it's Paula's voice, and not because I love the album. I hope to catch her on tour next year. Last time I saw her, my passion for her music doubled, which I didn't think was possible since I already loved it so much. So maybe this time, seeing her pour her heart into the Amen songs will cast the work into a new light for me emotionally. (my husband says IBIL sounds like the theme song for a 70's detective show - -- OK, so maybe, but I just tell him to go kiss Fiona Apple's skinny butt). Unrelated note-- look for the moon tonight. besides being solstice, the moon is at perigree (closest to earth), and the sun will be at its closest point to moon--supposed to be a fantastic, large, bright full moon this evening. here's hoping for clear skies so we can really enjoy it! I was at a club here in Manhattan over the weekend and heard an amazing dance mix of IBIL. Just found out a few minutes ago that, Jonathan Peters, a very well-known NYC DJ (a la Sound Factory Bar), did the mix. It really is just excellent and must not be missed. I asked the DJ at The Monster about it and he said he couldn't really tell me where he had gotten his hands on it, but I could see the 12-inch as it was sitting on his turntable. It bore the WB logo and appeared to be a white-label DJ promo. After checking with every store in Manhattan that sells vinyl to DJs, I've come up empty-handed. I spoke with a rep in Warner Bros. promotions dept. yesterday afternoon and she tells me that it's very much up in the air whether or not the mix will be ever be released. That would be a crime. Perhaps hearing from those of us on this list would nudge the powers that be in the direction of releasing this mix instead of shelving it. It would truly suck if you all miss out on hearing this dance mix. Makes the WHATCG remixes sound even worse than they are. Call Warner Bros.!! Write them, email them. Write to the fan club. Tell them you want this remix. It might help even more to go the fan club route - at the very least they have some kind of direct connection to Paula's people. However you do it, please do so. The bottom line is that they're only going to let us hear if they think we'll pay for it. Thanks. II Just a quick follow-up to my last post about the remix of IBIL... A DJ buddy of mine just hooked me up with a taped copy of this mix. I've been listening to it for the past hour and it's just so freakin' unbelievably GREAT!! I'm writing again to mention something that might create even more incentive to contact Warner Bros. about releasing this remix: Paula's vocals have been rerecorded for this mix. There's a noticeable difference in the way her vocals sound and, by the end of the song, she really lets loose with some dance hall diva hollerin'. She sounds so damned good. The mix is known as "I Believe In Love" (Peters' Gentle Mix). If this cut is the "gentle" one, I would love to find out that there's is a "rough"one out there, too.
